Title explains most of it. I hate leaving my iPhone flat on a hard surface, and I was thinking of just leaving it on the dock. Although, I don't want to charge it when it doesn't need to be or have it logged into iTunes, so I was just planning on docking it with no plug attached.

Will this drain the battery or cause any damage by sitting idle on an unplugged dock?

Answer my own question.

I left my phone docked in for half a day without the dock plugged into an outlet or the computer, and the battery is still full.

So yes, you can leave it on the dock without having to worry about draining the battery.

The reason I asked is because a long time ago when the 3rd Generation iPods came out, I once left the iPod docked with nothing attached to it, and for some reason the battery drained out. Since then, I grew a little phobia of docking things and worrying about if it drained the battery.

the manual says

The manual says not to do that with a laptop that is on battery power and sleeping... that it could drain...

I have a faint memory of reading this in the manual... but I am currently sleep deprived and heading to bed... YMMV

Note: If iPhone is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby
mode, the iPhone battery may drain.
