I haven't used Ventura yet, but I am interested in the opinion of those who have. It seems like the updates are mainly centering around communication (Mail unsending, Message editing, Handoff FaceTime, Continuity Camera) and sharing (iCloud Shared Photo Library and Freeform).

Are there any standout updates for those who don't really care about communicating and sharing?

The only things that I can see from Apple's Ventura page that are of interest to me are the Weather and Clock apps – and those are nothing that exciting.

I'm just wondering if there are any small, pleasant surprises people have found.

Only thing that excites me is message editing, but as I understand it both ends need to be on Ventura for it to work.

Or iOS 16.

I just upgraded my secondary machine to the latest DP (couldn't be bothered before) and looked around a bit. But as far as I'm concerned macOS Ventura is a dud of a release. Except for Stage Manager, the System Settings app and iMessage feature parity with iOS 16 I couldn't name a single other feature that I'm that interested in. Meh.

Ventura seems like an overwhelming...meh. The updates in Mail, Messages and Safari seem nice, but you'll hardly notice that they are there IMO. Safari updates you'll get either way afaik. Personally I'm staying on Monterey, unless Apple is forcing me to update to Ventura to get the latest Logic Pro update (like they did with 10.7).

These too-frequent MacOS releases only force Apple programmers to constantly shift things around, and change the UI just for the sake of change ifself, which introduces unnecessary bugs and issues. Why not solely focus on getting Rosetta 2 and the M1/M2 support right. There's certainly still a way to go, especially for more professional-type programs like Logic Pro.

If you're only using your Mac for Office, Spotify and web browsing, sure do the upgrade if you want to. If you do serious sound, music, photo etc. work, wait at least 6 months before updating.

The Duplicates finding in Photos is tempting me to upgrade sooner rather than later, but i have to say there are still quite a few bugs in 13.0 which tells me it is unwise.

If you use iCloud photo library you don’t have to wait for Ventura for the duplicates finding. You can simply do it in the photos app in iOS 16 and the changes will sync over to the Photos app in Monterey. That way you dont need to update to Vemtura if you don't want to But can still find duplicates now.
