Guys, I do not see your problem here, neither I see the connection of the two threads, one wondering whether the X phone is high end and the other whether it will be an iphone or S4 killer.

There can be, and in fact are, many high end devices in the market that are not even close to iphone or S4 killers. The 2 threads talk about two completely different things.

If you have an issue with more than one threads created by one user, then contact the forum administrator proposing to allow only 1 thread creation per user.

Else, lets focus on the discussion which appears to be growing and interesting and leave aside unconstractive and irrelevant comments like these.

This couldn't be further from the truth. I've gotten better battery life out of my iPhone 5 than I do with my GS4. It's all about making your hardware and software work together. Android's still cannot touch the way in which the Apple ecosystem works together.
 
You know what?

My year old SGS3 has voice commands too to wake up the phone, just like the ones in the new Moto X.

I can personalize my own voice command to wake up the phone and search, look weather, get directions, call someone and more.

It's called S Voice :rolleyes::rolleyes:

The SGS4 also has it.

So it's actually not that new and original in the Moto X. Already done last year.

Who said anything about the GS4. I'm talking about the Moto X.
 
I think the tech editors have killed the x already, if it won't sell I blame them, they've pretty much stated the flaws and said its not worth the cost already.

I also think stock android is too ugly for mainstream appeal.
 
in hardware customization - yes

in software and specs - NO

it's just a mid-range device will many customization options and few software perks
 
I'm just not a Moto fan of smartphones. They seem to always suck at design. And the Moto X is not an exception.

Based of the link above ...... It looks like a cheap knock-off of a Galaxy phone. The SIM tray on the phone's left side isn't quite flush with the edge of the device. The headphone jack is mounted in the center on the top of the phone. The power and volume buttons feel just a bit too loose.
 
I agree the X is overpriced.

But nothing seems to compare at that size.

Any other suggestions? Please don't say Nexus 4 because I'm not having that argument :D (2 Krait 300 > 4 Krait 200)

No it's not a GS4 Killer at all, but dare I say it's the best at its form factor.

Anything sub 5" gets its internals neutered (worse than the Moto X's at least).

HTC One is sub 5 and isn't very neutered. (Besides the terrible camera)

It's incredibly rare for any phone to "kill" another. The last time this has happened was the original iPhone basically killing Blackberry.

No, the next iPhone won't kill the Galaxy S4.. no the Galaxy S5 won't kill the next iPhone.

Want to know what will be the Galaxy S4 killer? The Galaxy S5.

Wanna know what was the iPhone 4S killer? The iPhone 5.

Truth be told, I don't think the Moto X will even sell that well. For a device to be really successful, it must appeal to the mainstream consumers, not just people like us. If you're on a tech forum regularly.. chances are, you aren't the average consumer.

Average consumers only know of like 3 phones total (Top tier)

1. The lastest iPhone
2. The lastest Galaxy phone (Props to Samsung for becoming so popular)
3. and occasionally people have told me they know what the HTC One is

Devices like the Moto X, Nexus 4, etc. While they are nice, the mainstream do not know about them.

Agreed seriously. Phones are basically equal these days and which one you buy depends on what works best for you. Ill buy iPhone since all my stuff is apple and people in my lives have iPhones. All essentially do the same thing.

Well I wouldn't say all phones are equal, but they're close enough and have pro's/con's in relation to each other so none "kill" the other.

In 2007 everything about the iPhone was a pro.

Samsung and Apple are just too damn popular. iPhones are more popular in the U.S. but Samsung took over the mantle that Nokia once had for global sales. About 80% of people I see carry an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy.

Even with a KILLER price like $300-349, Moto X would be lucky to sell as much as the Nexus 4. Lucky if it reaches even 2M units. A joke compared to 20M S4 sales or Apple selling 37M iPhones in one quarter.

Remember that Nokia 920 commercial? The one with Samsung and Apple fans fighting in a wedding? That is how it will play out for the rest of the decade between Samsung vs Apple in the mobile space. And both are multi-market companies. Samsung can always fall back on their TV's, laptops, washers, refrigerators, etc. Apple has an entire ecosystem of products.

Motorola and even Nexus devices are relegated to niche status. Motorola was hip circa 2004-2006 with their RAZR, but since 2007 with the iPhone introduction, Moto's best days are long behind them. Nokia and BlackBerry experienced the same thing. Motorola is even getting beaten by Chinese OEMs like Huawei, Lenovo, and ZTE.

I think you might be wrong about Motorola. Pretty sure they hold the market in barcode scanners and two way radios. They also make a pretty penny with multiple other products. From modems/router to cable boxes. Motorola might not compare to Apple or Samsung and not be strictly consumer based, but they are not going anywhere.

Whatever the Motorola is producing on the side its core business and maybe major revenue source is phone manufacturing. The whole company is built around that and this is why, as it has not produce any best sellers for some years now, it is a loss making company. In fact, latest Google results have been critisized by analysts due to the loss making Motorola engine that they are carrying with them.

Pressure mounts in turning Motorola to profitability and I think Google does not have the luxury to carry Motorola in a loss making mode for much longer or their share price will start plunging.

This makes the moto x very important for the company as it is their first output after one year of their coexistence. They'll need to make it work even to at least cover the Motorola expenses and break the business even!!

You make some good points about Rim and Nokia...they once had the market to themselves but then sat on their laurels so to speak while the mobile space passed them by. Moto is the exception to those two examples. Google bought Moto...they can infuse cash and creativity into Moto's stale designs. I do not think Google will let Moto fail. I think the Moto X phone is just the beginning of Googles influence and ideas and products to come out of Moto.......
 
They're not even selling it outside the US and it's a "meh" midrange phone. It might get a reasonable number of US sales from the patriotic marketing but it won't come close to the international success of the iPhone and Galaxy lines.
 
I actually was looking forward to this Motorola X phone. I put it under my watchlist around March along with the One, S4, and Z. Kept reading all this HYPE surrounding it in rumor mill that it would be a GAME CHANGER. Didnt exactly pan out. Maybe it is intuitive enough to know what you are going to do next by holding the phone.

Then when the news came it was still going for $500+ and this wasnt the Nexus 5, I just said "Pass." Hardly better than Nexus 4 specs with customized backs. The only thing I liked from Motorola lately is they add 3000+ mAh battery on their flagships and they use Kevlar backing. And Moto is known for great reception (like Nokia). Moto probably made some of the nicest flip phones in the mid-00's.

The only Moto that ever interested me was the Motorola DROID RAZR Maxx HD but that was on Verizon. I believe the Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD and LG Optimus G (E975 variant) were two of the most underrated phones of last year.

Motorola is like the Atari of cell phone history. They invented it and cradled it like a baby in the early years. Pioneers of their respective industries. Now both Motorola Mobility and Atari Corporation are just another subsidiary.

motorola has some cool features on their new phones, without a doubt, but I won't give them a second look until they improve their less than mediocre cameras.
 
Any android device is going to be hard pressed to pull the general public away from the iPhone. We can sit here all day and bicker about hardware specs and OS versions, but the average persons know pretty much nothing about it.

The general public wants things simple and easy, and apple does this very well. Simply plug your phone in to you computer, iTunes opens automatically, it then backs up your device and syncs over all media. Whether iTunes is good or not really isn't the point, it's just simple.

iOS is also the same on every iPhone (even if iOS7 looks different, it acts the same) which allows people to stay familiar with the interface and use other peoples phones. iMessage is great if you have more than one apple product. iCloud works so well most people don't even know it's on. Siri is a nice touch that some use, but still isn't fully adopted (google now is getting pretty good too).

Android looks and works differently on many different phones, although many are similar.




The point is that people are going to use what they are familiar with as long as there isn't another product out there that it so revolutionary that they have to try it (like the iPhone was). It also has a lot to do with Steve Jobs marketing, but i wont go there for now lol. There's not point in arguing over which phone will kill the iPhone because we aren't normal users. We know what a quad core processor, DDR3 RAM, AMOLED Screen, etc... is and most people don't.

The fact that iPhone from a hardware / software synchronization level works beautifully with a touch of simplicity (and i'm not say android doesn't) doesn't help people to desire to leave the platform. Especially since it is also locking you into apple services at the same time.
 
iPhone killer?? Doubt it. Samsung killer? I also doubt it. And I thnk Motorola is better than Samsung. Motorola took a page from Apple where specs aren't as important as the experience. The X8 computing system seems to be really effective. The price is a bit high but it is built here in the Usa.

The Lg G2 has very good hardware but the software is a major fail. I wish Sony stepped their game up.
 
No it needs better specs in my opinion. A larger screen would have been good too. I like devices with alternative skins as you can get the best of both worlds. Don't like stock touchwiz flash a stock android rom.
