If I buy the baseline 13" macbook pro now since the 13" retina is coming soon buy say next year would my laptop have lost its wow factor or will it still be like a nice laptop to have. especially since the cMBP will most probably be discontinued next year.

So basically will the non-retina 13" macbook pro still have a wow factor next year or the year after?

ahahahaha

Agree with you. Some real first world problems are paying off mortgage; saving for retirement and/or kids. Buying the latest gadget for the "wow" factor is the worry for teenagers and people with too much time/money.

I'm a teenager and I'd rather use my old iMac than my new MacBook Pro :D Not everyone wants to have the latest gadget ;)

I personally don't think that the normal 13" MPB has much of a wow factor to begin with...probably because I'm in college and it's the computer that literally 70% of all people have on campus. It looks super thick compared to even the 15 inch cMBP too. I know it's the same thickness, but it's a size vs. thickness thing. If wow is something that's important to you, return it and get the 13" (when released) or 15 inch retina.

Who are you trying to wow or impress? My own experience: over a year later, I still enjoy my MBP as much as when I first got it. It works great for me. But I was never buying it to wow anyone.

Exactly this.

I bought my MBP two years ago because I felt that it would be the best possible computer for my uses.

I didn't buy it to 'wow' or impress anybody.

If it's purchased as bling, then I'd question other things... $1500 or whatever for "wow factor" is definitely a questionable concept.

Most bling shouldn't cost more than $50, as my William Hartnell w/ TARDIS action figure diarama had cost me...

Will my Macbook Pro loose its wow factor?

Well.. You appear to have Joined Up here TODAY..

So Welcome!! And I must add:

If you Don't Open the Box and USE it, EVER.. then NO, it should be WOW for years.. Likely!!

** Buy It.. Use It.. Enjoy It.. Wow Yourself!! ** :apple:

You are what gives us apple fanatics a bad name

Wow factor?! R u serious

Actually, I kind of wish I still had my old MBP Classic (pre-unibody). I think still using that would give a definite "wow factor" way more than this unibody...

Assuming that you mean 'resale value', the answer is no.

All Apple products retain their resale 'wow' value much more than any other consumer tech item. Of course there are limits, but it's pretty dern impressive .
