iPod Will my old power adapter work?

I have a old firewire power adapter that came with my really old G4 (?) ipod that now is broken. Anyway i have a iPod touch on order and i am wondering if it is safe to use my old power adapter.
 
The iPod Touch should charge and not die considering that Apple has left firewire charging available via the dock connecter.
