This might actually be the biggest difference between the pro and non-pro 12 models as far as usability goes. So do we have any idea if the regular 12 will still have annoying 2x2 mimo like the XR and non-Pro 11?

Cheers,

Unfortunately no one here can answer this question for you at the moment. But the link below is the latest news in regards to which modem they might be using in the upcoming iPhones. I would still anticipate the non-Pro models to keep 2x2 and the Pro models to be 4x4 but as the saying goes "expect the worse and hope for the best".

That is actually a great question. Although I do question the "usability" side of things on 4G, but 4x4 MIMO do make difference on 5G NA ( non- mmWave) .

It isn't really technical, more of a cost and market segmentation issues. If Apple price iPhone 12 starting at $749 with 128GB, then 4x4 MIMO would fit the bill. That is assuming iPhone 12 Pro comes with mmWave antenna as standard.

Otherwise I find it hard for Apple to get A14, OLED, Qualcomm Modem, and still price it at $699.

And It wont be X60. Said that a million times and Qualcomm even pointed out in their investor note they expect first X60 phone to be out in 1H 2021.

4x4 MIMO makes as much of a difference on Sub 6 5G as it does on LTE.

Not if you include SNR loss, better CA on 5G SA etc. You get slight speed improvement on 4x4, on the assumption that your network is not the bottlenecked in the first place.

Unlikely, because Kuo does not expect 2x2 for uplink.

So, probably 2x2 down and 1x up.

Would Apple really make one iPhone model with just high band mmwave 5g and another with just sub 6 and mid band? That’s crazy!!
