worth it. It makes my 15" macbook pro that much faster and efficient. I've seen 8gb for as low as around $30. I believe I also so 16gb for little over $100. Don't quote me on the 16gb though, but ive definitely seen 8gb for cheap.

Please help me understand and decide which of these two deals is best.

I opened my MBP and note the the RAM is Samsung (made in China)
2GB PC 10600S

The price is virtually the same for these two options, but I'm not sure which is faster/better.

Option 1
Crucial
8GB Kit (4GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 memory module

Option 2
Samsung (made in Korea)
8GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) CL11 SO-DIMM Dual Channel Laptop Memory Kit (Two 4GB Memory Modules)

Option 2 is faster, 1600 Mhz > 1333 Mhz

TLDR: 4gb is not enough for lion to run well.

8gb improves performance significantly if you run more than a couple of apps at a time.

8gb is like 30-50 bucks. Bang for buck it is not expensive.

16gb about 100 bucks but you will notice progressively less benefit as you add more ram unless you are working with LARGE data sets or many many apps at the same time.

4gb is a bit tight though. Go for it.

I have option one. I absolutely love it. Crucial is awesome

I wouldn't count on that. Yes the clock speed is faster, but the latency is huge comparatively, so in real world situations I think the differences will be negligible. You will probably see a little better results in benchmarks, but you will notice nothing in the real world.

Thanks for the input.

I decided to go with Option 2, the Samsung RAM because it's what's in the MBP now and it's labeled at a higher speed than the Crucial in Option 1.

I haven't noticed an issue, but thought WTH, at the price I can make sure that my RAM won't be, or become, a bottleneck.
