Hi everyone,

Question in title..will replacing the battery in my iPhone 6 automatically bring back its original "unthrottled performance" or do we also have to wait for Apple's new iOS update in early 2018 to bring the performance back?

My phone has been very laggy ever since iOS 11 update. I even restored it (setup as a new iPhone this time) but performance is down the drain. Apps load a lot slower than usual, multi-tasking is slow, etc.

I hope replacing the battery will at least speed these things up.

Hard to say. May be the iOS

Check your battery with one of the apps like Lirum Info Lite

If over 80%, I doubt it will help

I don't think it is throttled if over 80%, not sure though.

That's a good point I wonder if it is still slow when you plug it into the wall adapter? Hopefully not?

If it's still slow when plugged into the wall power there's a good chance the new battery will not make a difference.

Just checked with that app, battery health is at 66% or 1200/1810mAh.

So I definitely need a replacement it looks like but I wonder if my performance will get a boost right away after replacing the battery.

It should regain performance, if not immediately, then after one or two battery cycles so that the OS knows the new battery's health.

Go for it. It's cheap now anyway.

Use coconut battery on a Mac to double check. Any iOS app is completely inaccurate as iOS hides this information. Only coconut can check because it reads the hardware directly and uses a Mac to bypass hidden iOS information.

The app is telling me my iPad has 72% health remaining while coconut is showing 88%. Huge difference.

Ok, I just used coconut battery on a Mac to check three iPhone 6's in the home.

A) iPhone 6 at 58.6% health or 1060/1810 mAh with 807 cycle count

B) iPhone 6 at 89.1% health or 1613/1810 mAh with 1050 cycle count

C) iPhone 6 at 81.9% health or 1482/1810 mAh with 1211 cycle count

All three iPhones experience similar sluggish performance.

I'm surprised to see B and C are experiencing the same sluggish performance with optimal battery health...? So if I upgrade the battery on A, I would expect the performance to remain the same or improve? Doesn't make sense to me.

The cycle count on B/C are crazy.

But here’s the deal with the 6. It only has 1GB of RAM. It’s going to be sluggish on iOS 11 regardless. iOS 11 is probably the last version of iOS the 6 will even get.

Wow Those are all pretty high cycle counts!

Were they they fully charged when you tested them?

Did you try them fully charged and connected to the wall power adaptor?

iPhone 6 will feel slower on iOS 11 regardless. I’m betting the one with 89% capacity isn’t throttling. As Mirollin91 stated, 1gb of ram isn’t a whole lot to deal with. The jump in performance between the 5S and 6 to me was not very noticeable... The 6S is where I noticed a nice speed increase. I still have my 6S as a backup and iOS 11 runs extremely well on it..
