will restore disks work on another MBP?

a buddy of mine was given a MBP 3,1 but no disks. i have the same model so will my restore disks work on his? and no he didn't steal it. 😀

from what i have read he can't use them or at least shouldn't. correct?

They should work if it's the same model, it just checks the hardware configuration before the installer starts up.

He can order replacement disks by calling Apple.
