Hey there, MacRumors!

My husband and I just moved to a new rental house earlier this month. We’ve been with T-Mobile since spring 2017 living in the same town with few issues. Unfortunately we moved to a weak spot. We don’t have home broadband right now (thanks, Covid), so WiFi calling and the CellSpot from T-Mobile aren’t currently an option.

I’ve been considering switching back to Verizon as they appear to have a strong LTE signal in our immediate area, and I know their coverage in general around here is good. I had VZW up until we merged our separate plans into one. I can also get a discount on VZW that would bring the cost pretty close to the what we pay for T-Mobile.

So the question is, can two T-Mobile iPhone 7’s (one base 32gb, one 128gb) be ported over to Verizon and work with no (or few) issues? Obviously we’ll upgrade eventually as proper VZW iPhones will work best, and we’ll want 5G when it comes here. Just trying to figure out if this can happen cheaply. I’m a first year teacher, so money is tight.

I’m also aware that AT&T would be an easier switch, but I just hate dealing with them as a company. And if I’m making the switch to one of the two most reliable networks, I want to be on the one I know works well in the rural Midwest as that’s where I live (sort of) and visit.

Yeah I don’t think they are the correct model to work with Verizon. You will be glad you switched and it will be worth every penny.

You can use a Verizon 7 iPhone on T-Mobile but not the other way around. I was disappointed when I could not use my unlocked T-Mobile 7S on Verizon or Xfinity Mobile which also uses Verizon.

I have an XS Max that I got from Verizon almost two years ago that I was able to use on T-Mobile an hour after purchasing. Back then, they unlocked them almost instantly once the phone was activated, in this case 2 hrs.

They should work on Verizon, but they won't support CDMA as a fallback. But Verizon is dropping CDMA for phone use by December 31st anyway. For awhile Verizon wasn't supporting the Intel iPhone 7 models, but that limitation seems to have gone away. Just check this https://www.verizon.com/onedp/byod#/ site.

Also, depending on where you got the phones, they may be the QUALCOMM models anyway.
