John Ternus is an Apple TV fan, but wants to make it ‘more competitive’: report - 9to5Mac
A new report sheds light on how John Ternus might approach the Apple TV streaming service once he steps in as CEO.

Ternus wants to make the AppleTV streaming service more competitive. But what does that mean? It could mean branching out into more types of shows like weekly news, sketch comedy, procedural medical and crime shows, monster of the week shows, cartoons, etc. It could mean bigger budget movies that are Hollywood summer blockbusters. Or it could mean ads?
Now no one likes ads, but they do keep the cost of these services down. Netflix started streaming at $7.99 a month in 2011 and is now just $8.99 a month in 2026. That's incredible. The addition of ads has almost completely neutralized price increased for 15 years. Meanwhile, AppleTV started at $4.99 in 2019 and is now $12.99. That's a 160% increase in 6 years. It's unsustainable.
So what do you all think? Will Ternus bring ads to the platform to reduce the cost and gain more subscribers? Or will it continue to be an ad-free premium experience that outprices Netflix and other streaming platforms?
