Looking into a new mbp and am wondering if the base 15 inch model would be sufficient for a user of lightrrom 3 and Photoshop? It's already at the top of my budget so I'd like to avoid upgrading

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
+1

I run CS5 on the Macbook in the footer and it works quite well actually. LR and CS work much better on the new iX models. Don't forget to add lots of RAM when you can. That will also have an impact.

As others have said, Yes it will do just fine. I am considering the base model as well for my photo running applications. I'm not a serious gamer and can easily live with the 256 though wish it was 512 just for the heck of it.

I have the base 15 inch but I put 8gb of ram in it myself. It handles photoshop and lightroom easily even at the same time. Loving the quad i7
