While we wait for Max Tech his review (rather than advertisements from iJustine and the others), are you predicting that Apple decreased the SSD speed of the base model again or not?

most likely the same speed for the base storage

Yes. 128GB chips didn't suddenly become more plentiful or cheaper again, so they are probably going to use a single 256GB chip again - which is why it is "slower".

Those 128GB chips were never in short supply to begin with. Apple will happily sell you an iPad/Air with 64GB storage and iPad Pro or Apple TV with 128GB.

I‘m also curious about this. If I remember correctly the m2 512ssd also was slower than the m1 due to the use of 2 chips instead of 4. Was wondering if the m3 is the same story.

Dont believe that was the case, it was just the 256. The 512 and up didnt get an improvement over the m1 but it matched.

On M3 iMacs, the base 256GB model gets the same single NAND 1500MB/s treatment. Only then on the 14" M3 MBP since the base is already 512GB, so it has dual NAND (of 256GB) to get 3000MB/s. Can see the base M3 Air to match the iMac.

Expecting the base 256 GB to have only one chip. Compared to M1, the 256 GB will most probably have lower speed. Expecting similar speed when compared to M2 256GB model.
