This will be THE must have item this holiday season even at $300 MSRP. Moms and dads and aunts and uncles will fight tooth and nail just to make their children or nieces and nephews happy. Even at a purported 10 million units in production Apple will struggle to meet demand. Kinda like the Tickle Me Elmo fiasco. People were lining up early and leaving disappointed. Resulting to Busch league tactics and even fistfights.

I would like to think Apple's vehicle is a little bit better than the various toy and department stores but...tis the season.
 
Time will tell - there is considerably more competition than this time last year. Families already in the Apple ecosystem may buy; existing Android phone users may not see enough benefit vs. the Android tablet market.

It'll be worth it when I see the face on the person I'm gifting it to. She has a kindle fire now but isn't happy with the interface but likes the size. Mini will be perfect.

Worth it for me. It will fit into my lab coat pocket. The current one can't.
 
Of course there will be. Tim Cook is the supply chain genius right?

It's the holiday season and there is NO way they are going to get caught shorthanded.

Now they are going to play the standard 'release day' dance they do for every product.

A) leak a few weeks before there are supply chain issues (check)
B) limit the initial preorders available so they will sell out the first day...further pushing people to panic and 'line up at stores' for release day
C) ease the bottle neck by week 4-6 weeks in so that there is plenty of supply.

Amazingly C will happen right around the beginning of December.....

You forgot:

D) Tons of people sucking up supply around when C rolls around for gifts.
