Unless power consumption didn't matter and Apple wanted slap 16GB of RAM on the iPhone. M1 is a big and power hungry package.
M1 in iPad Pro obviously made sense. Apple has advertised it as a computer for years. It now has Thunderbolt 3.

Making the the point that your smartphone has a superior performance per Watt than some Intel or AMD part.
TBH I do not know if I will be getting the iPhone 13/12s by December. I did not have much use for the 11 for the last 13 months.Lol, ANYTHING can happen, Apple has made that clear!
