Hi,

Does anyone know if the iPhone 5 will receive IOS updates until 2016 (as I am thinking of holding off buying a iPhone until 2017)? Thanks!

No one knows, people can just speculate and guess. It seems quite likely that it will still be supported by the next iOS update, but it's hard to say for sure.

A good amount of discussion about it all is available in a few threads:

Apple could drop support being that it doesn't have a 64-bit processor, but the iPhone 4s, with half as much RAM, is on the latest update, so chances are the iPhone 5 will at least get the next update.

Odds are 50/50 for A6 devices (in my opinion). Who knows what Apple wants to do with iOS 10 support. It could go either way.

The odds for A5 devices, on the other hand, are basically at 0%.

A6 devices have had 3 major OS upgrades by now, the same as the iPhone 4 and 3GS had. Only the 4S had managed 4 major OS upgrades. We shall see, but I think it'd be a good idea for Apple to just go 64 bit only in iOS 10

The iPad 2 has been through 5 major updates.

Thought they're getting unstable and batteries are degrading in many, even 4(S)'s are still eligible for updates, so looks good for 5's.
