I love my iphone, I've had it jailbroken before 3.0. And I loved how much you were able to customize it. Why do you guys think APple doesn't allow this already?

    Thanks

    Incredibly doubtful.

Apple doesn't allow it because they don't want you to have it, and that's good enough for millions.

I don't think so. Remember, they keep saying..... They don't want anything to take away from the User Experience. LOL on that one.

Just playing devils advocate here... wouldn't allowing themes "enhance" the user experience?

if Apple were smart they would let us have themes.... Create themes and sell them on iTunes.. Or have a theme distribution through iTunes.

All I personally want to do is be able to change the wallpaper on my homescreen.. and maybe my dock!

    Straight from Apple themselves:

Apple spent a lot of time and effort developing this distinct and innovative way to seamlessly deliver core functionality of the iPhone.

    Translation:

Screw you, we know what is best and there's really nothing you can do about it. If you want our phone, you'll use our theme, otherwise buy a pay as you go piece of trash.

Since we've yet to see them on the desktop OS, I doubt we'll see it on the iPhone.

what about home screen backgrounds? its pretty much the only phone on the market that cant do this. Apple would also have to add an option for dark text for light backgrounds.

    They like simple uniformity.
The theme that comes with the iPhone OS compliments the design of the two devices.
By allowing users to change it out of the box, all iPod Touches and iPhones will look different from each other.
And many themes are awful, and make the device look bad.

My iPhone is jailbroken with the customized Matte theme. Since it can still be done fairly easily, does it really matter if Apple allows it?

No because Steve Jobs hates people who customize things.

That's what I was thinking. It seems like they could make some good money off of this.

That quote could mean anything. Since the first iphone launch there has been added functionality. As another poster on this thread already mentioned, it would seem Apple could more get dollars (not saying they need it) by creating Apple themes (not third party) and sell them in itunes. The Apple themes may not be to everyone's liking, but it could give board iphone users something to spark an interest.

Well all I have to say is they can't complain about jailbreaking if they aren't going to let us use the device to its full potential.
