I'm no expert on leather and have never had a leather watch band; I imagine it is comfortable and I like the look of the leather loop, but how much water do you think it could take? A splash or two? Or would any water whatsoever ruin it? Also, how much do you think the leather loop will cost?

I would not freak out in rain with leather but never use it in shower or pool. That would be reserved for the sport band. Leather can discolor and even if it is not totally ruined it may also swell. Have you ever washed your leather wallet by mistake? It never looks the same again.

Stainless steel can get waterspots. ICK

Leather (and some cloth bands) can also start smelling from sweat. I had one once that I got rid of after a month because I could not stand the smell if I raised my hand near my face. Of course, there are lots of leather qualities. I seriously doubt the Apple one will absorb sweat.

Leather is Great for a night out.

Well I'm going with the Sport so no worries there. If it is under $50 I may go for the leather loop just for certain occasions, or just to change it up occasionally; but I doubt it would be that cheap, and I would prefer to spend my money on a band that I can take in the shower, if the recent waterproof rumors are true.

Yeah, I've had to buy a whole new pair of leather shoes every time it rains or I step on a puddle and it's costing me big time. They just disintegrate into thin air.

Most Leather shoes have a polished exterior to repel water. They get nasty if worn without socks because they soak up sweat. How often do you immerse them in water?

Some have suede leather shoes and they FREAK OUT if they get wet.

So YOU go ahead and get a leather watchband and take it swimming and shower with it on.

My Apple leather iPhone case was $50.. the band will probably be like $79

Hirsch makes a few good waterproof leather straps that you can actually swim in, but, generally, you only want to get leather straps accidentally wet, like in rain. No showers or swimming.
