I've been using Macbook Pro 13inch 2017 for almost 3 years. I've had a plan to upgrade a new one, the question is "Should I wait for Macbook Pro 16 inch using 10gen Intel processor or get it now?"

Thanks in advance for every suggestion.

Unless your MacBook Pro is acting up I’d wait, we’ll be getting a mini led screen, faster specs, possibly Wi-Fi 6, possibly other upgrades.

Most likely getting released end of the year, or early next year.

What are you expecting that a new one can do that your 2017 does not? There's always something better to upgrade to, but if there is no killer new feature that you need then why not wait until there is.

It looks like mini LED is a bit delayed so we are probably talking about end of Q1 or Q2. I would at least wait for WWDC next week to see if we get any information about a new generation of ARM computers.

My advice is: do not switch. I have been in similar position month or three ago. Received BTO 16” but decided to return it.

Too much added bulk and weight, waaayy too much heat and noise and no added value for my workflow.

with 10th gen 14 nm Intel 💩 it won’t be any better... (in my opinion)

But: I like butterfly keyboard (recently Apple replaced keyboard and battery free of charge - BTW: keyboard was ok) + I am using it 60% hooked to bigger monitor and BT Apple keyboard, I do not need better GPU.

FaceID! Windows Hello on my XPS makes me feel like a caveman using TouchID (more inconvenient than you think when using external keyboard setup).

There is always a new Mac coming. Always.

The question was directed at OP - i.e. what will a 2020 MacBook do that his 2017 won't (other than delay his retirement :)).

To your point, I agree. I've had a couple of Surface PCs over the years and Windows Hello is great - MacOS and hardware really need to support this. We can't even get a decent webcam built-in!

Is it as secure as touchid? For Apple Pay purchases and banking data?

to answer my question:
“according to researchers at German company SySS, a more accurate description might be: “you are the password – and so is a photograph of you.”

As incredible as it sounds, the team found it could bypass Hello on multiple versions of Windows 10 simply be presenting a printed infrared (IR) photo of the system’s owner.”

And someone bypassed FaceID already but who really cares? There are also methods to spoof TouchID.

If I was a high value target I might care, but even then I might not ;).

Any security can be broken into given enough time and effort. But the more secure it is, the more time/effort needed to break in and at a certain point it isn't worth the thiefs time. A lot of security hacks require physical access to the device anyway, which if that happens, your Mac was likely stolen and you have bigger problems anyway. Short of being a high value target, stuff like TouchID or faceID are secure enough to not have to worry about it to the best of my knowledge.

Yes, very good point!
However, I can only partly agree with you. I meant mostly your credit card and banking identity - I might not be as rich as Bill Gates but when my computer is stolen I don’t want thief to bypass login and access my credentials using my photo...
It is the same with phones - unless you use it for calls and candy crash saga it is ok to have some semi-pro unlock solutions (vide “flat” faceid with selfie camera). When you store your banking data and passwords you want it to be bulletproof or at least difficult to hack by a common criminal. Also, I know that nothing man made, other cannot “unmade” 😂
