For the first time since I've owned an iPhone, my contract allows a yearly upgrade for free (just meaning I lock myself into a fresh 2 year contract).

My first iPhone was the 5 and I've always avoided the S's because it didn't make financial sense, but there usually was a new piece of tech included, such as touchID or force touch that made them appealing.

This year, I haven't seen any rumours regarding the next X, as all the focus seems to be on the X Plus.

Do we think there will be a minor spec bump and nothing else?

Is anyone else planning to go from X to Xs (or however they brand it)?

It'll be just a spec bump & minor improvements. Up to you to decide if that's worth shelling out for a new phone. I upgrade every year so I'm certain I'll be upgrading.

What can you really add except a spec bump.
Unless it’s a gimmick or something like emoji or down them lines

Well like I say, in the past there's been new tech, such as Touch ID or force touch. Even a camera upgrade. I just wonder if, like others have said, Apple have some surprises up their sleeves or if the model will be basically the same.

This is the first year in a long time that I am seriously thinking about not getting the new iPhone. Last year I got the X and love it! I have the iPad 10.5 with LTE and LTE Apple Watch and I find myself reaching less and less for my phone. I kind of wish I could pair my watch with my iPad. Apple will need to offer something really compelling or my current X to stop working for me to upgrade. Maybe I am just getting old!

Not me. Xs will have some improvements as any “s” iPhone cycle, which generally are not big deals. If you really want to upgrade despite of these, get Xs plus, which at least you get a little bigger size although not much (less than 1 inch), but a little better improvement on size. I only upgrade to Xs plus if there is 512 gb storage size.

My personal predictions are:

A12 processor
4 GB RAM (+ 1 Gb)
Same display, no ProMotion
New color option (gold/copper)
Improved camera set-up (dual)
Improved Face-ID with faster and vertical identification
No new storage size
No in-the-box 18w power adapter (but slightly improved to 7,5 or 10w)
No in-the-box headphone jack adapter
Apple pencil support with a new hardware option (smaller in size, coming in October)
Improved water resistance with possible no-click volume and power-buttons
Improved fast charging / wireless charging

--> I think the focus will be on the 6,5" model and on accessories.

+ a sneak peak for new iPads coming in October (only one size 11-12" LCD, no notch (thicker bezels than iPhone X), A12(x), new pencil(s), ProMotion, 4 GB Ram, massive camera upgrade, new keyboards)

Must admit at the moment I use. 7plus anThe iPhone 9 interests me but if not I will go for the iphone.x that’s out now mainly because of cost...as the new x model is gonna cost loads I think

In my opinion it's never really "worth" upgrading from one generation to another when it comes to Apple... Their upgrades and improvements are very incremental... That being said I upgrade every year. I think it comes down to if you are a tech fan who always wants the latest and greatest... and if you have the $$ to justify upgrading every year.

-And when I say "when it comes to Apple" I mean iPhones which are on a yearly cycle...

Anyone here considering upgrading from iPhone X to same-size iPhone "XS"?

Yup, I almost certainly will. An upgraded processor, camera and a fresh battery alone will make it worthwhile for me personally.

I am a business owner and have several family members on my plan who I can hand the X down to, so upgrading is sort of a no brainer.

I'm only going to the XS, as the + form factor is just too large to be practical for my usage.

I believe the 2018 5.8 iPhone X will stay fairly similar to what it is now, with some upgrades, the real advancements this year will likely be more exclusive to the 6.5 iPhone X perhaps with Apple Pencil support, landscape mode (Which the 5.8 iPhone does not support), camera upgrades, etc. Face ID improvements should be likely for all the iPhone models, with the exception of 6.1 LCD iPhone could retain the first GEN face ID.

I currently have the X and will not upgrade this year. I may eventually upgrade in December or January after reading the reviews of the X+ and the hype die down some.

Well it really depends on what carrier you have to be honest. As an example if you’re a T-mobile customer the new iPhones should support their new 600 mhz and 700 mhz bands that allow for better penetration of buildings. But if the phone already supports all your carriers band frequencies then there really is no reason to upgrade. Lets be honest, a slight bump to the camera and a faster processor at this time doesn’t really mean much when every flagship phone out there performs well.

I feel the X could be a little bit faster... Difference in speed to the 7 Plus is negligible.
