If we're casually throwing Rolexes into the conversation to advertise our wealth then sure, my Sub is 25 years old, and only had 1 polish in that time. It has hairline scratches all over it, but nothing deeper than that and certainly nothing like the little deeper marks in the phone. Im not criticising the stainless steel, yes it scratches, but it's crazy how quickly and significantly it does. My Apple Watch stainless doesn't have a mark on it and that's a fair bit older than the phone

Who’s talking wealth? The point is no matter the price Stainless steel will scratch my friend.

I have quite a few watches in my collection, some stainless, and they all get hairline scratches from wear and tear and cleaning them with a cloth. The point was made for awareness towards babying it won’t keep the scratches away no matter what is done because of the mirrored SS on the bands.

25 years with the same Sub? Step up your game my friend...

All in fun :p

Yeah, its one of 2 watches in my collection I won't sell or change because it's got sentimental value to it. The other also happens to be an old Sub, a 33 year old sub from my birth year. And yeah, my collection of 42 watches means my game is already "up"

Maybe Apple is trying to teach the people to Let Go of minor anxieties like scratches on something as trivial and temporary as your pocket computer. This is forcing people to realize that the intrinsic value of what's inside is more important than the exterior appearance. And that there is no such thing as perfection, and real beauty will always have flaws.

Or something philosophical like that....

Oh I’m sorry you’re the guy who bought the Paul Newman a few weeks ago...how silly of me to not realize!!!

Maybe try and enjoy your phone and not worry about a silver band on your phone....lmaooo, ask Rolex to buff the scratches out for you next time you send that sub in, or one of your ya know, 42 watches.

Yeah I thought about bidding on the Paul Newman but you know, no space in the 42 position watch case so I decided to leave it for someone else. By the way, not all 42 are what you would consider collectables, I have some swatches and mondaines and even some vintage omegas that are valued at barely anything now, with refinished faces etc, but still love them

Also why would I want to buff the Rolexes? that adds character to stuff that holds it value reasonably well whether it's hairlined or not.

My phone that I will sell next year however (although in this case im returning it or using it as a spare, but you get the principle) will lose more value if it's scratched than if it's not, and if a lot of people didn't put value on less damage or scratches on a phone, then it wouldn't matter, but to me it does, it's not equivalent to a watch

I think the silver looks better. The space grey would have been better if it was space black like the Apple Watch. But both are nice, regardless. The SS on the silver does scratch but they come off really easily with some polish or the cape cod cloths. I’ve tried it and it works wonders. If that space grey gets scratched, it can’t be fixed.

Ok. I’ve had the silver for 4 days. No case but been taking goood care of it. The stainless steel has scratched horribly. In the bright sunlight it looks like hell. It’s a fact. There’s nothing to do about it.

The question now is, can someone tell us what happens on the space grey ? Does it damage that easily ?

I would love to do this too ! How did you managed to find a space grey ? They seem to be out of stock everywhere.

Please let us know if it does better ? Thanks.

Just finished setting up the space gray X. I basically just reserved a phone this morning with my other line and returned the silver phone. All in all it was basically an exchange, I just used the other line to reserve the new space gray x through the iPhone upgrade program. So far really loving the Space Gray!

Cool thanks for your answers. Do you return the silver because the stainless frames was scratching ? Was it really bad ?
Can’t wait to hear if the same happens to the space grey. You got lucky to find one.

Honestly I liked the silver, I originally ordered the space gray during the pre order and than when I saw the silver in store I was like....woaaaaa!

It was an impulse buy, I have always liked all black phones, and this space gray is no different. I switched for simple reasons...I only use the apple silicone or leather cases and the bottom is completely exposed, which with that said, polished stainless steel will be a very tough job to keep looking like new. Some have said polish, im not putting polish near speaker grills, and to be frank I don't want to be bothered with doing those types of things. To me the black just looks seamless with my case on, and it's just my preferance in what I like. Don't get me wrong, the silver is beautiful, I just like my all black everything look!

Take a piece of sandpaper and create your own finish. I did this with my 3G when the metal border was dinged up, looked fantastic.

Y'know, I'm not sure why I never thought to do that. Way past that point now obviously but my 3 looked horrid with so many scratches on it at the time.

Be sure to get a case that has a Lining on the inside
Polished stainless Eel is scratchable and is normal wear and tear

I’m going through the same process than you at this time. But I’m gonna wait for you to report if the black is more resistant! Thanks again for the explanatik.

Use a case and the mothers polish and trust me - you’ll be fine. Silver is so nice

I’ve heard people say their SG has scratches already and can’t fix em. Oh well

What is “mother’s polish” ?

It's a stainless steel polish.
Lol do not use mothers stainless steel polish on the phone.

People are so quick to say hey I used it on my watch or something else stainless steel. A lot of people are forgetting a ton of factors like some of that cream, solution, etc getting into the speaker grill, on or into a seam in the screen, whatever it may be would be a pretty risky thing to do.

Now if you want to get surgical, and I don't recommend this because I've done it and I know it's strong stuff since I've used it on a few of my time pieces.

Cape cod sells a product that's made to polish our hair line scratches, and it works.

However you need to go into hospital mode and put some rubber gloves on and tape around the screen and just be very carful when using this stuff. I'd recommend YouTubing a video of someone using it on a watch and just get a gauge for what this stuff does, and than go from there.

Yeah that sounds like serious stuff.
I guess my best bet is to go to the Apple store, say my phone is broken. Have it replaced for a brand new one and snap a case on it !

Hey Sean, how’s your new IPhone so far ? Do you like it more than the white ? I feel like the screen is more impressive with an all black body than with the shiny frames of the silver one ...

What about it’s resisrance to scratch ?
[doublepost=1510358226][/doublepost]Look at what I found! Any thoughts anyone ?
