Well, the iPhone spawned the iPod Touch. The Touch is a really nice device (the ones I saw had a perfect screen on them).
But, will the iPod Touch spawn the iPhone Mini? I was at the store when I got my iPhone for $299 and many others were there getting one also.
$299 seems to be a great pricepoint if you want a PDA/Phone/iPod.
Maybe the $299 iPhone Mini will have everything the iPhone has but instead only 4Gigs? Maybe not the built-in apps or Bluetooth?
