Hey everyone

Do you all think there will be a new Apple watch announced in this coming WWDC event? I have a friend who wants to buy my 42mm Apple watch Sport for $200. I don't know if I should go ahead and sell it or if I should wait. I'm just afraid the Apple Watch may lose some more value after the announcement. What do you all think?

Does it really matter what we think when there is no actual answer? If you're already willing to sell it, what's stopping you from selling it? Wait for what?

WWDC is only software. iOS, MacOS, WatchOS & tvOS. The Apple Watch (2nd gen) will be announced in September after the iPhone 7 announcement similar to the first. Following a release the following year.

Of course the value will drop with the announcement of a second generation watch. I would say there is a possibility of an announcement in Sept.

I could only guess that they will at least announce a new watch in September with a release for October or so because they want it out before Xmas. That would be my best guess and most likely result.

WWDC may announce WatchOS 3 and some new features coming with some hints at a second version. Hoping for more watch faces. :)

Sell now if you want $200 for a sport. Best Buy has a sale now for $200 off the SS models and B&H added a sale that has the Space Black 42mm for $399 with a free watch stand. That is going on right now.

Otherwise keep your watch and have two watches since it can seamlessly work with both and use the sport for sports and exercise and have the new one for more formal use.

I'd worry more about losing a friend by sticking them with the depreciation hit. Keep your watch. Wait it out. When the new one comes out (whenever that is - because it's all wild guesswork right now) you may not even want it.

If you do want the new model, sell the old one to your friend and take the depreciation hit yourself. You got good use out of the watch, and friends are hard to find.

$200 for the 42mm version seems like a good price. I assume the friend has taken that into account.

$200 is good right now, but the OP was concerned market prices for used watches will drop further when the new watch is released. Viz:

While I don't think there will be a watch announcement. Apple has announced hardware many times at WWDC.

Keep a friend and keep the watch.

Lease the watch to him.

WWDC isn't always software only and Apple has showcased new hardware at this event in the past. They could have released the AW2 at WWDC if they wanted to, but we have gotten no good leaks or rumors pointing to this.
