What are you going on about? I can take thousands of songs anywhere in the world AND when I'm around my home WiFi which costs way less than $80/mo or one of the billion free WiFi areas in the world (which work reliably and reasonably well) I can also access all my iTunes music. I can also do it through a data plan if I choose to. On top of that all of my devices are synchronized without having to do anything. You really have to work to gin up some kind of complaint about this. So to answer your question, yes, you're missing something.

I think that @carlgo gets it just fine. iTunes will continue to have value for some of us -- like him. Others may never run it again. Either approach is just fine.

The Red Cross has a saying for this: it takes all types. :p

Does iTunes still treat the first PC you sync with as the "Home PC", or has that been eliminated with iOS5? I want to be able to buy a new PC and sync my iPad without wiping everything out.

I see, that makes sense. To me it seems like Apple could have just made a web interface right on icloud.com to play your iCloud music, etc. iTunes just seems very bulky to just play your media from the cloud.

Apple doesn't like to call it streaming but thats what it is. Probably for licensing reasons.
You either download the song to your device or it caches on your device, plays, and then is removed from cache after it is played. Thats streaming just like Pandora and the rest do it.

Doesn't look like it. I not longer use iTunes for music or videos, so I don't have much reason to sync when everything else can be done through iCloud or Spofify/Netflix apps.

It's a great move IMO, it really brings the iPod touch/iPhone/iPad into a realm of being a true Post-PC device. They can stand on their own now. Hopefully Apple gets printing to the level they originally promised.

What happens if you try to sync with iTunes on a new PC? Does it offer the option to switch to an new Master PC or does it want to delete everything on the iPad?

The main reason I see to keep iTunes is to sync movies, etc. - things that do not get matched in iTunes match. Also I'm unclear as to whether iCloud controls my photo albums or iTunes has control. Since PhotoStream is not a backup for photos I need my pc to do this. If I don't have iTunes installed how do I sync those albums back to my iPad? I actually like to control my albums on my iPad and sync back for backup.

My other concern for now is that I haven't done a restore from iCloud. Since I cannot see everything that I hope is backed up there (bookmarks for one, comes to mind) I am reluctant to give up iTunes for now. Perhaps later when things have been ironed out and I know exactly how everything works (not how it's supposed to work or how I THINK it will work).

Photo albums are still synced through iTunes and that's one of the main reasons I'll continue to use it. I don't believe photo albums themselves are backed up to iCloud, although I could be wrong. I also wish I could controll all of this on my iPad and through iCloud. Perhaps in future iterations.

Do people think this is actually a good thing? Am I missing something?

Yes, you're missing wifi access. And it's not like people are going to walk around with empty iDevices and only get things for the cloud. I have to say I'm excited about the idea of having local copies of the stuff I listen to most but still be able to grab any of the other songs as well.

More options are better, obviously if you don't see value for yourself you won't use it.
