I love the concept. If the MBA 11" would get a touch screen and triple its battery life, it would be a perfect product IMO.

its a screen protector. like my 4g phone has. it still gets fingerprints, and reduces the quality of the picture. for a phone, works perfect. for a computer, no way. its like adding a anti glare screen on the matte screen apple ships.

Why is this always considered a zero sum game? I don't get it... I'm an Apple guy... I've used a Mac since 1986 (yes, I know I'm old)... All I want is a Macbook Air that has a screen that can be flipped over or swiveled and used like an iPad when flat... I have a Macbook... I have an iPad... I travel a lot... I would like to only have to carry ONE device. I want to be able to use a trackpad just like a normal Macbook Air does now when it's set up as a laptop, and use a touchscreen just like my iPad does now when I want to play games, browse, etc... What's so complicated about this??? Here's a concept... let the USER be able to turn touchscreen functionality on or off and let them decide how they use their device best! Crazy, I know...

PS - while I'm wishing, give me an iPhone with a tactile keyboard... ;-)

Touchscreens are for tablets! There is no possibility that MBA's will have a touchscreen this year.

I think they will replace the keyboard/mouse with a "keypad" which will be the horizontal touchscreen, so the main screen does not get greasy.
That could open up so many possibilites but 2 have 2 screens on one notebook which would cause a significant jump in price to even bring about a new line separate from the other lines.I can just picture the entire keyboard area being jet black till you switch on then you get a software keyboard that retracts when not in use.

Agreed. +1 for this.

did you really delete your post that 3 people quoted you on? avoiding the obvious works I guess...

No I didn't delete anything, I must have said something good about MS or vice versa...

Still googling "mac air touchscreen" everyday hoping for an announcement..

Any thoughts when the refresh might be announced? I guess Steve Jobs birthday is the 18th and could be an option

yeah I don't think it's possible to delete your own post... or at least I haven't figured it out. Mods must have seen something they saw as insulting or trolling.

Let me save you some time. A touchscreen macbook air will not be released in the immediate future. Apple knows that Lion would be terrible for touch. Obviously they are maving improvements for it (like launchpad), but if the Mac is going to the touch interface(emphasis if), the earliest possible would be for OS X 10.8. A sneak peak of the next OS could be shown in June at WWDC (but no guarentee's), with the earliest possible release date of spring '13. And that would be when a touchscreen Mac would be released, and not a second earlier. So the best possible scenario for a touchscreen macbook air is over a year away...

But if your mind won't be eased untill a mba refresh to confirm/deny the touchscreen, look to our buyer's guide. According to the average refresh rate for mba we would be looking at 119 days away. and even if your take out the one abnormality (leading up to the huge mba redesign) we could estimate about 50 days away. But of course a refresh won't occur till ivy bridge is ready, which is in the April-May timeframe.

Oh come on, you know what he's saying. The old "iPad just a big iPhone" argument. It's inherently flawed, but don't act like you don't know what he's talking about...

ZOINKS! Is this flame bait? Cause I'll nibble.

The iPad is no more a "giant phone" than android tablets are giant phones. The run the same OS's as phones sure, but honestly which does an iPhone have more in common with, a computer or a telephone (remember those things with buttons and a cord? An iPhone is really a mini computer that makes phone calls. iOS is simply a new computer operating system along with OS X and windows. It was built with simplicity and ease of use in mind, that's why some may see it as "not as functional as a real PC"

Slow?? Wow sir, yeah wait till windows 8 comes out on tablets and then come back and tell me all about how slow the iPad is...

No I don't! My iPad, can't call anyone like my iPhone can, what it does have is a screen my 64 year old eyes can see, and use. How about a little respect for others views, without assuming what others meant? Unless of course you are the poster, but you aren't , so lighten up junior!
