Will there ever be a new large iMac (Pro)?

I so hope that the rumours aren't true. I wouldn't bear buying an old GPU, especially when in a few more weeks new one will be available. Come on Apple, at least the RDNA1 refresh!
It's just the most important feature in a computer, nowadays, ffs...

What does FFS mean? Is that something to do with the Fusion Drive (for 'For Fusion Sake'? Is that a swearing for Mac users?) Or changing the iMac's design after ten plus years?

At least an RDNA1. A year old gpu is the least we deserve...for our premium £1750-£2250 price range.

I always had iMacs as lagging Tower gpu performance by at least a year. iMacs tend to catch up about a year later (in the 5700XT's case)...eg when gpu process tech' shrank...or they used to. RDNA2 has every chance of making RDNA1 look very dated and low end. Plus, concerning the iMac? 50% efficiency on the RDNA2 helps with the cooling equation?

Doubt we'll see RDNA2 on such a premium AiO. (I'd love to though...) But I'll put a penny in the Steve Jobs 'Make a wish' dreamer's society and you never know...

Seriously, it will be a huge step forwards for me and my fried Nvidia 680MX. And it should be very noticeable vs the 580 low end gpu in the current iMac.

Finally, a gpu that can push and shove the iMac's 5k display around with conviction. But it will be the RDNA2 that will one day dominate that 5k display.

Yes, some new Apple products have thinned their bezels where technological advances have allowed them to do so, but the bulk of the product line is still rocking those older bezels. The new MacBook Air. The new MacBook Pro 13". The new iPhone SE. All the iPads other than the Pros.

If the 13" MBP is EOL in favor of a new 14" model, it may very well have the same thinner bezels as the 16" MBP. And if the MacBook Air is EOL on Intel and moving to ARM, perhaps that will have a new case that will also have thinner bezels. And maybe the rest of the iPad line will drop TouchID for FaceID which will allow them to thin the upper and lower bezels like on the iPad Pro. One can hope for all of this, though pricing pressure might delay some of these moves (especially on the base iPad and iPhone SE).

Some of their older designs allow them to reach lower prices. No complaints there.

The iPad cheap. And the iPhone cheap. Sound products.

But if this was the case (no pun intended...) for the iMac then we should see Infinity bezels on the the flag ship iMacs with only the entry model 'rocking' those panda bezels.

Overall, I find the ten year old bezels unbecoming on a 1 trillion company.

Though some may argue that is why they are. A 1 trillion company. 😉

Why cant they just make a normal desktop like Mac Pro? All in one desktop has its limitation and most of them are using a mobile CPU because of that. iMac's cooling system is terrible as long as they keep AIO design.

its not that they can't. Its just reserved for people that pay a premium... at least to a certain degree as that T2 SSD is pretty nasty on the MacPro.

I expect it is very much supply-chain driven, designed around making the products available to more people while not making them "common" as well as recovering the investment in R&D and production.

And I expect Apple spends a fair bit more on Mac R&D then many think and even with the margins they make, they need to sell a lot of them to secure the desired RoI and that likely takes years. Especially for "low volume" models like the new Mac Pro that will likely never sell more than a few million no matter if it was $3000 instead of $6000 - hence why it is $6000. And why wheels are an astronomical $700 - only a low percentage of people will want them so making them cheaper will not drive new sales so they have to price them based on how many they expect to sell with the complete cost of making them.

By now, Apple should have fully amortized the costs of the existing iMac casing so that would not be a valid argument as to why Apple would not make a new case. However, the new case will likely still only sell in the low millions per year (based on current iMac annual sales) so a very expensive new case design will mean they have to raise the price of the iMac (which will then depress sales even more).

But since the 23" does give them the option to do something different, hopefully it will spur them to make that call and then also so something different with the 27" iMac and iMac Pro.

Sometimes we have to stop complaining and just accept what they are going to give us.

Nothing else is ready at AMD. TSMC is probably still not yielding enough RDNA2 to supply Apple, IF mass production is even started.

At some point, we just have to stop and accept it. Apple is still not controlling the entire production chain. The day they will put their own SoC in their computer, then we gonna be allowed to complain. For now, they must build a computer with what they can have at release time. If that means RDNA 1.0 and Intel 10th gen, then it is.

I wonder if the base models have RDNA1 and the high BTO models could have RDNA2? And base models would be ready on the 22th but BTO models would ship in the end of July or later, so that they would have enough RDNA2 to ship.

I do not think the iMac will have RDNA 2.0 if it ships this month because AMD appears to be planning to ship the most powerful model with the largest die and heaviest power draw first and that's not going to work in an iMac or an iMac Pro (both due to TDP and the power supply). That GPU is meant to be used on a full-length and full-height PCI card with a wind-tunnel's worth off fans on it drawing power directly from the power supply and that's only going to fit into the Mac Pro. But hey, at least we now have a Mac Pro that it can fit into.

"RDNA 2.0 for the Masses" won't be ready until the end of the year and it will very, very likely be in the iMac Pro refresh due at the same time.

Here's my possible stupid question: assuming there is hardware announced at WWDC, it seems safe to assume it will be first thing on Monday, 6/22. Do we know for sure if it will be streamed live, and what time?

Well, it is silly indeed but you are a newbie so we will overlook this. ;-)

Its an online event so it will be streamed.
I understand you ask specifically (ie. non developers) and that applies to that also.
Apple always streams events these days as they want maximum exposure and also people love those.

You can count on a stream and I'm sure this year will be special in many ways.
I doubt Apple will do the same old thing. I feel they will want to make something unique given that its first ever digital event. Otherwise be ready for a dry and boring event.

Think Different - that used to matter. Now its Apple's time to show us that they still do. WWDC is perfect opportunity to show us something different.

I have high hopes for this WWDC because there are no excuses anymore. It's essentially a brand new event so they better make it count!

If they are going with latest Intel 10th Gen industrial heating system good airflow is not a nice to have but a Must Have Requirement. And it might fall in line with their tradition of bringing designs to "lower-end" machines from the line (think pre-2018 iPad Pro -> iPad Air -> iPad 7).

What I'm expecting is the new iMac's (maybe with a new re-design) will perform just as well as the current iMac Pro (which I'm rocking and loving at this point). With a little bit of luck, the iMac Pro (if they decide to keep it) refresh will end up being amazing.

P.s. My favorite drinking game at this point is taking a shot whenever Azrael9 posts his thoughts about the situation. Take a shot of your favorite drink each time his optimism cheers you up.

There will first probably be the usual boring product sales information pep talk from Tim Cook and I imagine something about how much Apple cares about everybody. Apple will be announcing the next macOS which will be of most importance with all it entails. New Apple hardware announcements, if any, stuck in somewhere before the end.

The WWDC Keynote Address is always streamed live and major hardware releases have been part of said keynotes so the expectation is that the iMac will be part of the keynote (though it will likely be in the latter half of the keynote address).

The WWDC keynote has been streamed live for years (we had to rely on live blogs on Mac Rumors before live streaming was reliable enough for Apple to use it), and will be again. It is usually at 10am on the first day, California time. 6pm here in the UK.

Yes, both iMac and iMac Pro are using desktop CPU and GPU.

But are there any other AIO desktop with a monitor using a desktop-grade CPU and GPU all together with other than iMac series? There are reasons why CPU and GPU coolers are huge and heavy. iMac series' cooling system is seriously pathetic and not sufficient. This is why I kept demanding a normal desktop from Mac.

Remember, AIO desktop is extremely unpopular compared to a normal desktop and Mac AIO desktops are much more.
