Will there ever be a new large iMac (Pro)?

The iMac Pro. Even if it gets RDNA2. That will be end of year knowing Apple's schedule. And the new imac can get the RDNA2 probably cheaper than Apple's upsell charges and bang it into an eGPU for the new iMac.
Perhaps the Micro 'LED' will have it's advantage. Or those 18 cores.
But it had better be good. The new iMac will take away most of the current advantages it currently has.

Az, what intrigues me is that yes, we likely know it's going to be redesigned and with better cooling (because of the internals).
What impress me is that in one year or so, all the internal redesign will have to be once again redesigned. Because an ARM CPU won't heat as much. It won't require cooling that much. It won't require a GPU, it won't require RAM (if Apple continues the SoC paradigm)...
They will do it all again ?
Someone at Apple must not be happy right now and must pay twice the amount of development....
As for the iMac Pro, it's going to be announced next week with a a [September-November] release, just like the first one in 2017, because they likely wait for RDNA2 mass availability. 99.9999999% sure it's this scenario.

The iMac Pro is a weird one. If they had a slightly cheaper entry level Mac Pro model, it wouldn't be needed. On the flip side, maybe a new iMac Pro will mean to make buying a Mac Pro worthwhile, you'd have to spec it up to north of $15,000.
Losing Keller will hurt.
Apple will show no mercy with this transition. It will take a year.
Laptops next year say....by Summer. Then iMacs by the following Summer.

I agree that 4GB VRAM should be the low end config. I think 6GB is fine for mainstream. I think 2GB currently on the base 4K is painful.

They might have the same cooling system with one of two messages at the Arm launch:
"The Intel processors needed throttling for thermal reasons when doing x,y, or z. The new Arm processors are just as capable, but never need throttling."
"We can now give you x% more performance within the same machine."

Still, amortising a loaded £3k iMac over ten years is 300 per year. Not so bad...
Sure, it will look prehistoric compared to the A24X...but you'll be ready for a new upgrade by then...

Agreed. Prosser is a wanker. He knows a lot, but when he doesn't know he still kinda acts like he knows. He's equal parts knowledgeable and annoying. He missed this iMac thing by 80% and only recently made that semi-admission. He's more into phones, probably because that's where his sources lie, but he could be more forthright about that.

Mac ARM affords them complete design destiny latitude. They can have thinner designs and better performance. When 'THEY' *not* Intel decide. Extra profit and keep prices the same or, if they deign...to...pass make more affordable (*giggles...) product to aid Mac ARM adoption. That Mac ARM user base will build real quick. Humiliating Intel in the process will be a mere bonus. It will save Apple billions. Apple like to control the key tech'.
Sure. Apple will sell you a 'great' Intel iMac today. And a new Intel product after WWDC with new design to sell products that will bring in billions. And they'll do the same in two years time with an even thinner iMac Air in two years time. And make even more billions.
Sure, some Intel buyers might not want to hear it because of legacy, performance, software concerns. But it's clear Intel had failed Apple for the last time...when Cook noted in a financial conference Intel (yes, those guys...) had cost them growth.

The current GPUs haven't been generally fit for purpose with 4k outside of a 2080 Ti.
The RDNA2 will disrupt that at every price point big time. See PS5 for details.
That didn't stop Apple releasing the 5k iMac with it's 'premium' gpu tech' back when. It was slow on games native and it was chuggy on interface at times. It's better now than it was.
It will have a nominal bearing on them selling a 6k display to Mac Mini or laptop owners with the cutting edge gpu tech' in them.
Any RNDA2 eGPU solution will drive that 6k display no problem.
For the 5k, the RDNA1 5700XT is just about 'there' for a 4k display and will make the 5k sorta come of age with a gpu that it can (finally) respect.

So was the idea of an Apple chip going into any Mac. Once upon a time.
However...
Apple are too much 'control freaks' to do such a move to allow 'Mac' OS to run on any tawdry piece of tat hardware.
They're about the 'holistic' whole. (And the billions in profits...ofc...)

Exactly why.
Macs go full ARM while OSX can be installed on any PC.
This allows Apple to focus only on ARM hardware from now on while allowing people to use OSX for gaming / development.
They start charging for OSX maybe $30-$50 and they rack a fortune without spending a dime on hardware.
Most iOS / iPad OS users will go arm anyway for better integration with mobile devices so apple wouldn't lose market this way at least for most part.

It's a marketing and product inflexion point.
Mac Os has been hanging on that painful numbering for a while now.
