If it can take landscape photos why can’t it do landscape Face ID authentication with front Cam!

Yesterday I was testing this and was happy that it didn’t work because I’m a single guy and don’t want the other person in bed unlocking my phone while I sleep to do research on me. I came from Touch ID

If Apple cant cram in the sensors to work in landscape in the current notch, a form of Touch ID would be good enough supplemental to Face ID.

I’m not sure that the lack of landscape Face ID would prevent someone from pointing your phone at your face while you were in bed. If your face was sideways and your phone was sideways, then it would appear to be a portrait orientation to the phone and it would unlock. This limitation prevents the phone from recognizing a face when the face is 90 degrees off from the phone. But there’s nothing to stop someone from rotating the phone 90 degrees to match the orientation that your face is in.

However, all that said, Face ID requires your eyes to be open to authenticate. So no one would be able to use your face while you were sleeping anyway.

Only if "Required Attention" is active.

Good point. I believe that is turned on by default, but I guess it’s worth checking on if you are planning to be unconscious with someone you don’t trust who could have access to your phone and your face.

You’re right just tested it again. Smart apple with the eyes closed feature. Good enough.
