    Hey guys,

    How are you doing?

I'm waiting for my iMac i7 27' to arrive next week, and I am already planning to buy a SSD to install it to run the OS and still use the bundled 2TB HDD to store files.

After some research I found this guy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227552

"OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE240G 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)"

My question is, will it work with the iMac? Is it compatible?

    Thank you very much!

Any SSD should work, as the connections are universal, and formatting the hard drive to osx can be done to any disk.

The more serious question would be if it will work with the temperature sensor, and if not it will cause your hard drive fan to stay at a constant maxed rpm. One way to fix that would be to short the cable.

I'm not a 100% sure but I believe that if you try to install that drive you will ruin your warranty. You can only replace RAM on a iMac. On a MB, MBP or MP you can swap out both RAM and the hard drive.

Thank you guys, I'm buying that one!

I'm gonna send it to a Apple authorized service center, let's see if that does not void the warranty :D

It is not an apple part so it won't be covered under warranty, period. As for their authorized service center doing the work, I would check it out first as they may, or may not, do that work at all.
