C chabig macrumors G4 Nov 3, 2022 #2 The 'M' name refers to the chip architecture, not the manufacturing process. So if the new chips use the current M2 architecture, they will be named M2 xxx. If Apple were to skip an architectural generation (doubtful) they will be named M3. Reactions: james2538, ThomasJL and russell_314
