Will using the discreet GPU speed up encoding?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I don't know.

On my MBP, will switching to the 9600 GPU (from the 9400) increase the speed of encoding and/or converting video?

It depends on the App. Motion and Color rely heavily on the GPU, for example, while FCP and Compressor do not.
