I just bought a waterproof digital camera and I love it. Seems to me, that making a waterproof iPhone wouldn't be that hard. Only thing is, all that lost money on people buying new iPhones after they dropped the old one in the toilet.

It'd be interesting but doubt that's priority for apple.

Nothing I want is ever a priority for apple. No Verizon iPhone, no built in blu ray burner, no.... well, that's about it, actually.

My Bad!!

On a phone? WTH, where would the drive get power? Now maybe on a MacBook Pro, then sure.

I'm sorry!! I get it now... I didn't mean a burner on the phone I meant for my iMac. I get the are you serious? post now. Sorry... sorry...

Waterproof? No. Water resistant? Maybe. But waterproofing means: speakers may suck, microphones may suck, dock connector cover (sucks).

Apple will have to make some sort of tiny wireless 30pin replacement with power.

Also, if they make it water resistant, imaging how many less replacement phones they would sell vs. repairing them under warranty.

And most ppl will never get they phone wet. It's called being careful, and in the case of an accident, well that's just unfortunate.

Everybody makes great points about this. Yes, you can be careful and put it in a bag so it is safe. And yes, many of the features then might not work as well. But I was thinking how great it is to take my camera to a waterpark and take videos/pictures on rides because it is ok to get it wet. If Apple wants to be a flip-killer (or, really a Kodak playsport killer), maybe a more rugged, you really don't need any other device on your vacation iPhone is it. I say, prove me wrong Steve J. Make a rugged iPhone, charge 100 bucks more for it, I'll buy it. If a bunch of other dads do, you get their money. If no one else does, then I'm wrong. Its a win-win really.

I know there is always that "even though you don't like/need it doesn't mean other people don't" factor but I honestly feel like there is not enough people who want/need this for it to be implemented. Don't get me wrong, it would be really awesome... but it just doesn't seem like it will ever be a demand. Just my $.02.

You're probably right. Being a dad of two crazy monkeys, I want everything to be waterproof, shock proof, etc. Most people probably don't want to sacrifice features, even more money, etc. Damn them! :D

I'm gonna go and "ARE YOU SERIOUS?" this now. It's pretty clear from their first post about blu-ray that they were talking about Apple's priorities in general, not just the iPhone.

Yeah. It's not a priority for apple to make waterproof iPod/iPhone. But apple could offer waterproofing your device as an upgrade.

send your phone (or any device) to golden shellback. they'll waterproof it, no case needed.

if i had the superfluous cash, i'd do it.

Oh yeah, how about bulletproof too?
That's nonsense.
How would the speaker, mic, headphone jack, USB plug work?

You do know how speakers and microphones work right? Wouldnt be hard to make them waterproof and in fact both of them already exist. The other two could easily be accomplished...
