the reason for the cutout was to accommodate 3rd party docks.

Now that wireless charging is in its 2nd year on the iPhone, will we finally see it?

I love the iPhone leather/silicone cases but I would prefer that the bottom would be covered as well.

I wish, but I doubt that'll happen.

I love the open bottom on my X leather case. Every new case that I try ends up in a drawer because it's so much more enjoyable not hitting a lip when swiping.

I have a skin on it now but before that the bottom edge of my phone was flawless.

Agreed. My old 5S had the Apple leather that had the bottom lip with cut out. No reason for the 8 case to not have the same.

I'm thinking probably not....Perhaps if the bezels would've stayed, they could've covered the entire phone.

But now that swipe up function is being implicated in more phones, I'm thinking the official cases will remain with the open lip.

This used to bother me as well, but I think I'm used to it now. However, now that I'm looking into CarPlay, trying to find the best phone placement in the car (I dont know why but I'm wary of the open bottom in a car console......so weird, lol)

It's got to have the cut-out..... but the lip over it would be good still.
My 5S landed on that lip surround for a few years until the Apple leather case wore down too much. Apart from the glass bulging out on the last fall it took, the leather case kept that phone pretty immaculate. I don't feel so confident with the leather for my iPhone 8, that doesn't have that bottom surround.

The 5 and 5s cases had the bottom covered but they were prone to breaking if you used a large headphone or lightning plug or took them off frequently. I had mine replaced four times for that issue. They redesigned the cases so that doesn’t happen. So unless something has changed they won’t be going back.

Strange, I had mine on a 5S for over 4 years and it was very worn looking leather but I never had that problem.
The lip stopped protecting the screen towards the end though, and wore down, as the last time it hit the tiled floor, the screen protruded out of it on one side.
