The iMac is already ridiculously powerful for its form factor. It's as fast as a mid-range gaming PC but more compact than an average 27" display. It will not be possible to have a desktop GPU there without seriously compromising the form factor. So, no, I don't think that we will ever see an 'iMac Pro'. At the same time, given the advances in computing, an 'iMac Pro' would be probably completely unnecessary few years down the line - as a midrange CPU/GPU should be more than sufficient for all kinds of work. The Mac Pro is good for content creators, which need to process ridiculous amount of data in real time. For most other things, its quite an overkill.

Perhaps but people have been calling on Apple to release a headless iMac that would sit between the iMac and Mac Pro models, and nary a word or peep from apple. I don't see this this ever occurring.

Agreed. But the iMac's major selling-point is that it has an included display and greatly reduces cable-clutter. Having the iMac with a more high-end enthusiast components will also bring a lot of people over to the iMac.

I think it would just be an afford desktop mac without the monitor, that can be upgraded like the mac pro.

Maybe we need a mac mini pro :D I'm sure the newest iMacs are a big step up from my current 2009 iMac. Looking forward to upgrading in the Fall.
