Hey all. Well I just spoke to AT&T. I bought an iphone 3GS on launch day along with my wife. We are on a family plan. She's eligible for the upgrade and getting it. However, I am not. After speaking with AT&T they informed me I would not be early upgrade eligible till November 2010. Full upgrade eligible on Feb. 2011.

Which means, AT&T wants me to pay $599.

I'll be passing at that price point. $399 no problem. But $599, that's a matter of principle. LOL what are you going to do?

Im in the same exact situation.
Like many others like us probably.
Did an Early upgrade at 3GS release.
Now they want me to pay full price for an iphone 4. Early upgrade in November and full in February.
But hopefully like others said they will let us all get the early upgrade price.
It doesnt make sense since they want to tie in as many people as they can to the new $325 ETF. And we can get out of contract by paying $120-130 and getting the new iphone for the full $199 discounted price.

Why is the early upgrade eligibility so far off for some people? I got a 3GS in January of this year and the AT&T website says I could get an early upgrade price for a new one. If I'm eligible, most people here must be too.

I don't want to renew to a two-year contract so I'll be paying full price.

gotta pay to play

Of course but now im kicking myself in the ass for joining the family plan.

We got our 3G about a month and a half before the 3GS and both my wife and myself are eligible for the iPhone 4. IMO I would wait the few months. I didn't know AT&T was going to let users upgrade early so I was going to wait for my wife was able to upgrade. We are on the family plan, I am the primary account number on it so I can upgrade now if I want.
Like I said, just wait. it's only a few months to November. Is it really worth the extra few $100 just to get it earlier? Just think what you can buy for that money.
Like other said, sell your 3GS on eBay also is another idea.
The family plan is a great idea also, so what if you have to wait a few months. Who said you could upgrade when the iPhone 4 comes out anyways if you weren't on the family plan?

I don't understand this... I got my 3GS on launch day and I'm eligible for a full upgrade on 2/2011 just like you guys, but I've been eligible for early upgrade pricing for months now...

How could you possibly not be eligible 12 months into your contract?

Same boat as you. No chance i'm paying full retail price. My full upgrade isn't until feb and i expect there to be some Verizon buzz by then anyway.
The latest rumor I have seen about Apple letting an AT&T competitor market the iPhone 4 is that it will be T-Mobile. I hope so as I am a longtime T-Mobile subscriber. The report said that T-Mobile's network is based on the same technology as AT&T's. It also reported that "Verizon has officially stated recently that the company will not carry iPhone 'in the immediate future.'”

Do we really have to turn this thread into another "Verizon is totally getting an iphone" thread?

My post seemed perfectly relevant to me, and I suspect to most other posters, based on the title of the thread, which contains the term "iPhone 4." The rumor report I linked to is entitled, "T-Mobile iPhone 4 rumors steal the show from Verizon iPhone 4G." [Emphasis added.] Think about it.
