Just out of curiosity; I was wondering what the ratio is of people adding Apple Care+ and not adding it and also whether theft and loss is added :)

Also, how often have you actually used Apple Care+ in the past and do you think it's worth it?

I will definitely be adding Apple Care+, somehow it doesn't show the theft and loss option in The Netherlands so that might not be available in all countries I guess.

I get insurance through T-Mobile just because it’s billed at the same time as my phone bill and it’s one less payment for me to worry about having money ready to be pulled for.

I’ve only had iPhones since the first one was released and I’ve only ever had to use insurance one time, years ago, for a broken screen. Phone fell out of my pocket while I was bent over gardening and hit the corner of my concrete step.

Despite my lack of use, I still keep insurance because if anything does actually happen, I certainly will not have immediate money available for a repair or replacement. We are fairly poor. I can only afford to upgrade yearly because T-Mobile lets me with their Yearly Upgrade offering, I pay tax on the new phone and send my old one in as a trade in. I would never be able to afford to buy a phone outright and I don’t mind being locked in to a carrier.

I believe the T-Mobile insurance also covers theft and loss.

I’ll be getting AppleCare+ for my new Air. I plan to use it mostly naked, and if it isn’t as durable as they say then it will come in handy 😁

I will be replacing my current 15 Pro Max on my AppleCare One subscription with the 17PM once ive set it up, since I go caseless 95% of the time and only have a screen protector I like to have the extra security if I do ever drop it and crack a display or back that I can get it repaired cheaply. I've only ever used AppleCare once when I cracked the back glass after knocking it out my hand onto the concrete sidewalk after an already bad day.

I learned my lesson with my 2020 iPad Air which went flying onto the edge of a concrete set of stairs after I tripped cracking the display and bending the frame ever since, the devices I use day to day have been protected with Apple Care.

"Likewise! I usually buy a case and screen protector before the phone arrives, but this time, I just got AppleCare+ for three items instead — I wanted to carry the Air without a case. I still have my iPhone 15 Pro Max, just in case the Air doesn't meet expectations."

I hate cases, so I don’t use one. And for that reason alone, it’s worth it. I’ve replaced the front glass, back glass, and had the whole phone replaced twice. It’s definitely worth it for me. Before, I used to use cases and screen protectors, and so I didn’t need it. So it would be dependent on how risky you like to live and how accident prone you are. Also what is your money situation like and what do you do if someone steals your phone, screen is cracked, water damage.

My 17PM will be replacing my 15PM on AppleCare One. I’ve always had AppleCare+ on all of my Apple devices and have used AppleCare+ several times over the years and it has come in handy all of those times. 1.5 weeks ago I had the screen on my 15PM replaced for $29 instead of full price and had the back glass replaced last year for the phone for $29 as well.

Not going to get one. Have not taken AppleCare for any of my devices. Repairs are expensive but with a good case and screen protector, think it should be ok.

No.

Never had any issues (hopefully not tempting fate). Always use a good case and screen protector. My 15 Pro after 2 years still looks as new despite several drops. If it gets lost (never happened) then Find My mitigates a lot of that, and I'm very aware/protective of my phone when outside so theft is low risk.

However...

If I wanted to use the phone nakey/caseless then I'd 100% get AppleCare+. The problem is I live over an hour from my nearest Apple store and it's not an easy journey into the city so it's not a realistic option for me.

I do hate cases. As soon as Apple come up with a genuinely durable iPhone that can survive drops without damaging the phone then I'll go caseless.

I went 10+ years without any phone insurance (stupidly), until two years ago when my phone was snatched out of my hand in London. After experiencing the hassle of having to buy a new phone etc, AppleCare+ is a non negotiable for me.

It's crazy when you think about it...

We spend $1000+ on a brand new phone that Apple always boast about its design features and premium look.

But it's made in such a way that even with normal use, if you drop it or it knocks something then there's a real risk it'll get cracked/smashed/dented.

So people buy cases and screen protectors (more $$s), and then spend $100+ on AppleCare on top.

You'd think by now the durability of phones would have been a priority and reached a point we wouldn't need any of this stuff. But obviously it generates extra $ for Apple, so why would they.

I just went ahead and got the 3 device plan. I don’t know for how long I’ll keep it.

The only think AppleCare is a must on is AirPods in my experience. I’ve never had a phone or watch replaced.

Never bought any insurance. We put heavy duty cases (Otterbox Defender) and decent screen protectors (ESR lately). We have to replace my husband’s screen protector often but the other 3 phones in the house do just fine. We drop our phones a lot and after 4 years when they get traded they are still in amazing shape.

I’ve never had to use AppleCare outside of the included 1 year since I started with the iPhone 4, so no, not going with the extra insurance.
iPhone 7 had a deal on battery replacements at one point, so I took advantage of that one.

I get AppleCare not just for the phone but the tech support. I’ve used it plenty. I don’t like cases. Rather pay to repair than spend it on cases

I am on iUP, so I have no choice. However, if I had a choice, I would still choose to have it, just like I do on all my other devices. I've only used it twice over all the years since the iPhone 4 and the original iPad... But I am a hope for the best, prepare for the worst kind of guy.

I agree. I will also use my Air naked. Sometimes even without a case.

And with the AppleCare+ I’ll know I can get it replaced or fixed without breaking the bank.

If I beat it up a bit I can always slap a case on it then to cover it up later. At least enjoy it naturally instead of missing out on the key point of it just to preserve it for the next owner when I sell it.
