Bought MBP M1 with 512 GBs, not gonna be upgrading anytime soon. Likely won’t be in the market for another one until 2025. I was thinking of get an iMac around 2023 when they include Face ID, but since I got a couple 20 inch Dell monitors from work, I am not in a rush.

I was either going on sick leave for 6-8 weeks with only 75% pay or I was buying it with my own money and work from home with it.
I was going to loose around 1700 Euro if I was not buying it.
So well, we can say that I did get it for free - almost anyway 😉

Yeah, I had to wait a couple of weeks on mine - it was shipped from China.

They did have the 16/1TB in stock, but I didn’t need that much storage.
 
I bought a base M1 mini as a temporary system to use while I wait for the new rumored 14" MBP. This allowed me to sell my iMac Pro for max value while I could.

My Intel Mac Mini always run Windows VM's as a kind of server for me at home, and my real VM workhorse is a Windows desktop.

I know, I have other machines to do the VM work, but I do occasionally travel and I need a portable that can get the job done in a pinch. I wanted my MBA to be that machine.

I'm really looking forward to the possible miniLED screen and that will probably push me enough to upgrade, even if 16G is all the RAM it may have. (and the active cooling) That's kind of my priority list...

I tested the X86 emulation within one of the latest Win10 ARM developer releases with heavy processor load (Altium Designer 19) on my M1 Air with 8GB RAM. All that within VMs under Parallels and also UTM.
Must say, I'm very impressed by the execution speeds: The fastest E-CAD system in our office, even compared to what we got so far with our Mac Pros.
 
I purchased the M1 13" MBP with 1TB SSD and 16 GB RAM, and it is my secondary machine. When Apple releases the next generation of the M-series in the form of 14" and 16" MBPs I will be very interested in eventually replacing my current 2018 15" MBP with an M-series 16" MBP. I use the 2018 MBP for editing photo images and of course other stuff as well -- it serves as my primary machine, so will want and need more RAM than is currently available on the M1 13" MBP and also more ports as well. I frequently swap files between external drives and need to be able to easily continue doing that.

I have no expectation of doing so, not even if most of the myriad rumors were to come true.

I wouldn't have bought my M1 MBP if it didn't meet my needs.

... and since my needs haven't changed....
 
If I needed a computer for 3 years or less, I would’ve bought base.
I really needed one for 5+ years, which is why I got the 16/512.
 
I have an M1 mini and not going to upgrade for at least 2-3 years if then even. I'm so happy with this thing with my 4K Dell display.
 
Always wanted a 13” MacBook Pro and got the M1 8GB/512GB. Very happy with it, especially battery life. I won’t be updating for quite a while, but when I do, I suspect it will either be the 13” MBA or the 14” MBP. I have always had a 15” MBP, but I don’t miss the extra bulk. I have a 27” Core i9 iMac (2019) for Intel dependent workflows. I’m less concerned about keeping up hardware wise than hoping macOS on Intel sticks around for a good long time. Wishful thinking, I know.

I think the pent up demand for 14” and 16” MBP is going to constrain supplies for quite a while, so buckle up.
 
I have base M1 Air and will not upgrade. BUT... I had such a great experience with it so far that I will probably replace my PC with M1X Mac Mini.
 
My wife is very happy with her 24in iMac. I have the 16Gb/1TB M1 mini and when a new one comes out I will get it and use the current one as my server, replacing the 2017 iMac which currently does that job.
The iMac will go to my stepson as his 2009 iMac is starting to show its age!

It is running fairly good (some graphic problems on the hdmi 2.0 monitor).

But I will not invest in another M1 Mac if Windows 10 / 11 on Parallels is further rather a "test-installation" and not an official product.

It's not going to run x86 Windows. There is experimentation with QEMU but results have not been good so far.

The best at this time is if you can run your programs through Rosetta 2 or if you can get a native image for Apple Silicon.

I did my research and determined that my programs ran better on Windows x86 so I have a Windows desktop next to my M1 mini. It's a potent combination.
 
I started off with a M1 MBP 16/256GB, but I ended up deciding to go with a M1 MBA 16/512GB for better longevity and less storage constraint. The speakers, screen, and battery life were definitely noticeably better on the MBP, but I just couldn’t justify the added expense over the higher end MBA.

I’d be lying if I said that I won’t be tempted by a nice redesign. In terms of power, my M1 MBA is already much more power than I currently need. More battery life would be nice but unnecessary. A better screen would be nice, but I don’t think I want mini-LED.

TLDR: I can’t see myself upgrading my MBA anytime soon. I’d rather put the money towards a new Apple Watch.
 
No. And I expected M1 to be only the first step in a long line of Apple produced processors going into this.
