Winamp by Nullsoft, now owned by AOL, was a major media player back in the MP3 sharing heyday -- and is still the preferred media player for a large number of Windows users.

Last week, the Winamp team launched Winamp for Mac Sync Beta, the first Winamp application for the Mac. Winamp was rumored to be coming to Mac as far back as 2001, but the software was never released.

The main focus of the release is wireless and wired sync of music for Android phones and their Winamp for Android app. Winamp for Mac also happens to import and automatically syncs playlists from iTunes and acts as a basic music player, but many other features are presently absent. Nullsoft, however, reports that many more features are coming soon and promises a "new long-term commitment to the Mac OS platform."

Winamp for Mac Sync Beta is a free download directly from Winamp's website.

Whoa, what the. This still exists, even on Windows? It was pretty cool back in the days when it mattered how efficient an mp3 player was in CPU terms, so that my 486-66 could actually handle 128 kbps without skipping....

Needs Shoutcast Radio and TV and also plugins. Would not hurt if it was working with iPod Touch or Blackberry also.

downloaded it, and all though I like it, I don't like the fact it only finds music in your 'iTunes Music' folder. I don't keep my music in that folder, and my iTunes stuff is on a second HDD.

It would be nice if I can get it to see the whole 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file, which contains all of my music.

Don't think I'll be using this.

pffffft, comes to the party almost 15 years later...

I honestly loved WinAmp back in the hey-day of the late '90's, especially playing around with all those customizable UI skins, but *YAWN* I think I'll pass on it this time around.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

I too am one of those who loved WinAmp back in the day

That is, until aol bought them

Thanks but no thanks

Oh man Winamp is oldcshool! At least for me. I was an avid pc user back in the day. Might as well install it on my mac for the heck of it :D
