So now this morning I repartitioned the new drive and now I'm cloning the mac data over to it. Waiting to install windows xp.

That sounds like you picked the wrong partition or the partition is formatted HFS+.

Post a screenshot of your partition table from Disk Utility before you install XP. The drive should use GPT partition table and have one HFS+ partition for OS X and a FAT32 (MS-DOS) partition for Windows.

NOTE: Only Boot Camp Assistant from OS X 10.4 Tiger (now expired) will prompt you to make a disc. For 10.5 on the drivers are already on the OS X install disc.

Ok attached is the screenshot. I Knew they both said: File System : Mac OS Extended (Journaled) because before I selected Apply I looked for the option to select Windows for the 2nd drive but they only showed me Mac OS options. So I thought it would come up again when I tried to install Windows XP. (Which I haven't tried to install yet.)

Another thing I just noticed. With the new drive still in the enclosure when I just booted up holding the option button only the old drive showed up as an option to boot to Mac or Windows. Shouldn't I have seen the new drive as bootable to on the same screen?

I don't see the screenshot.

You should have seen OS X as an option to boot from on the second drive, but some USB adapters are late to the party and don't fire up at the right time at boot. I believe the workaround for those is to get to the menu and then plug in the drive.

I actually wanted to see the Partition tab. Select the whole drive in DU and select Partiton.

You should be able to convert your Windows partition to FAT32 by selecting it in DU (left hand panel), select the erase tab and then pick MS-DOS (FAT) as the Format. Then Windows should see it as a valid writable partition.

Note too that you need to do the Windows install with your new drive in the internal bay so that Windows will be able to boot from it.

Ok that's done. It shows MS-Dos on the windows drive now. Pics Attached

So I'm assuming my next steps is to:
1. Put the new drive into the mac & boot it up to MAC OS
2. Open Boot Camp Assistant and follow instructions for installing XP
3. As for picking the right partition I'm picking: “C: Partition3 <BOOTCAMP> [FAT32].”

Am I correct?

Now as the XP installation continues, there's a note in the apple Boot Camp
Installation & Setup Guide that states:
Even though Boot Camp pre-formats the Windows partition, you can’t start up the computer from this partition until you reformat it using the Windows installer.

To format the partition for Windows XP:
Select an NTFS or FAT format:
NTFS—Provides better reliability and security, but you will not be able to save files to the Windows volume from Mac OS X.
FAT—Provides better compatibility, allowing you to read and write files on the Windows volume from Mac OS X. This option is available only if the Windows partition is 32 GB or smaller.

Important: Do not select “Leave the current file system intact.” To successfully install
Windows XP, you must select one of the other options.

Am I still following these instruction to the end?

Good. Yes. and Yes. At this point the new drive should boot OS X and be able to carry on to the next steps in the Boot Camp Instructions. Carry them through to the end.
