How often do people just sit in their car that it makes that big of a difference? I dunno...maybe there are some nice areas to park and read a book where you live.

I'm guessing you've never been on a stakeout. Or followed a girlfriend/boyfriend/spouse suspected of cheating.;) Sitting in your car for hours on end ain't the most pleasant thing... It's starting to rain (windows up)... Peeyew, I shouldn't have had that grocery store burrito for lunch (windows down).:D

As for sinking to the bottom of a lake... cheating boyfriend rams your car into a lake. Yeah, only happens in the movies.;) Never happened to me before.:D:D

Power windows with a lock just for the sheer pleasure of farting and enabling the window lock with passengers in the car :D

what I do not like.....rear windows that only go 3/4 the way down!

I like being able to dangle my arm out of the car

Its for child safety, so kids can't climb out, dangle out the window or easily put stuff out the window.

The electric rear windows in my Dad's LandRover Discovery only go down half the way:( Luckily I almost never have to sit in the back, plus there is A/C, unlike the commodore :D

Perhaps Daddy's car is different, but most sedan's back windows only go down so far, because of the curve in the back of the door, for the rear wheel well.

Power windows can be locked-out from the driver's door panel. Rear doors openers can be locked-out from the rear door jam leaver.

Family cars often have people sitting in them when they are stationary and the engine is off.

Lol, LandRovers are far from sedans... There is no curve anywhere near the back doors, and there seems to be quite a lot of room between the doors and the wheels.

Depends on the model.

Here's one where the rear wheel impinges on the back door. :p

Every car made in the last ten years or so has electric windows now. My mum's old commodore wagon (budget as) had windy down windows, and I prefer them over electric. The main reason is that you can wind down/up the windows when the car in turned off! In most cars these days you need to turn the key round two notches to be able to use the electric windows ... Plus I had a bad expeience when I was a kid getting my fingers jammed in the electric windows of my dad's beamer (not to mention that that window never worked again)

So, is it just me or does anyone else prefer the old hand cranked windows?

I rented a Nissan Versa (not really my choice of car, surprised it is classed as a compact, I'd say it was an economy) this weekend and was severely dismayed when I saw it had wind down windows! A car made in 2010 with no effing electric windows!? Couldn't believe it.

Cars where winders are ok - British sports cars from the 60s. Peugeot 205 GTi. VW Beetle. Nothing else.

I don't like wind up/down windows. The convenience of auto up/down on all four windows is so much easier and you don't have to be sitting in the window's respective seat to roll it down.

The Nissan Versa has manual windows on the S and S plus models. I, personally don't like that. Having to grab something and twist it is a nuisance. As such, I think that manual windows and locks on cars should be discontinued.
