I have a drive with El Cap (10.11.6) that won't go through a normal shutdown.

◆ When I use restart/shutdown/logout command finder quits to a non responsive window with only dock active.

◆ I have activity monitor in dock so I can launch it and see that window server is still active. I have to force quit window server to proceed, and system will shutdown etc after that.

◆ A time machine restore backup made no difference and neither did a reinstall from recovery disk.

I may try to reinstall El Cap on another disk and migrate everything over, but hope I won't just import the problem. I'm trying to avoid this as it may cause me to have to reinstall a pile of apps that are all on DVD and will take days and days!

Any thoughts on what the culprit might be? I searched the web, found a few things where people seemed to fix it but didn't elaborate. Couple mentioned some terminal stuff.

Help a guy out!

Can you copy and paste that last 20 lines of so from the console logs for immediately before you killed the Windowserver process?
