I have managed to get Windows 10 running on an external USB SSD (I have it on a bootcamp on the HDD but it’s soo slow) and have downloaded all the bootcamp files while in windows 10. I have booted up onto it several times but then it randomly decides to go to the blue screen of death and says ‘’NTFS File System Error’. I have reinstalled Windows 10 and once again I get the same after a few reboots. I used Refus to create a WintoGo drive twice and the last time I tried it with standard installation (which won’t let me select it when I do alt key on startup).

My iMac is a late 2012 version if that helps.
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

What USB SSD are you using?

Is it bus powered or does it have its own AC power supply?

NTFS file system is not supported by macOS natively. I suggest formatting the drive to FAT32 and try again. If you want to run a Windows To Go instance, give a try on UUByte WintoUSB Pro. Hope this helps!

FAT32 has a 4GB limit per file and is not a good filesystem choice.

I am using a Samsung T7 Touch 1TB. It’s plugged into the USB port on the iMac
Hmmm. An NTFS Filesystem Error could come if a filesystem isn't shutdown cleanly or point to some other issue.
