As much as I'm annoyed with MacOS's silly, narcissistic foibles such as LiquidGl(ass), "new" wallpapers and "new" features, Windows 11 pisses me off far more.

The latest Windows 11 disaster is its 5.5 gig update and 570 security patches from last Tuesday. Yes that's five hundred and seventy. This pig of an update doesn't download, doesn't install, and, AND corrupts your existing Windows 11 installation so you have to reinstall the OS. This is more fun than I can stand -- and more time than I can waste.

In the wake of its updating failure, you wonder if you're being exposed, butt naked to security intrusions.

If I were to personify MacOS v Windows, they would be like a prissy, precious relative v a loudmouthed boring boor of a relative that you get sandwiched between at a holiday dinner, before and after and after.

I have both, and I can tell you they're both relatively stable... until it comes to updates. Like you said, Windows Update is an Achilles heel to Windows; they often don't install, install improperly, or corrupt something. Microsoft's handling of Windows has been nothing short of a disaster (Google the amount of ****-ups this year alone).

That said, I like macOS a lot. It could be the "honeymoon phase" for me because I'm using a MacBook I bought on release last March, but so far it seems like everything is smooth and clean. No kernel panics, no random slowdowns (excluding animations, but that's not often), and everything "just works" for me. Gaming is another story, however.

Have you considered Linux?

I work with windows 11, I have Tahoe running on my Studio and CachyOS on my desktop.

Windows 11 - Microsoft has been shootinug themselves in the foot for the past year or two. Probably around the time they laid off all of thier experienced software engineers, and opted for AI to code the updates. I think nearly every month of 2026, Patch Tuesday caused more headaches then it addressed.

macOS - Apple misfired with Tahoe, and completely missesd the target with Apple Intelligence. I'm not complaining about Apple's failed attempt at AI, simply because I really don't want it in my OS. I'm not worked up over Liquid Glass, it started off rough, but its a solid OS at this point.

CachyOS - The rolling release keeps things fresh, performance is better then windows, control of the OS is far superior then Windows or MacOS. If I don't want Gnome as my DE, then I can choose KDE Plasma, want a tiling windows manager, instead of floating windows, there's Hyperland.

Overall I'm appreciating Linux more then MacOS or Windows. I will say that my Studio offers a superior user experience when you take into account my iPhone, icloud and other apple services, so I'm frequently on my Studio.

I have found Windows 11 is usually more reliable if you avoid optional updates and wait a week or two before installing major ones. macOS has its own quirks, so it really comes down to which trade-offs you prefer.
