I’ve successfully gotten Windows 2000 on a black macbook4,1 with the modded NTDETECT.COM file from XP SP2

ISO: https://www.mediafire.com/file/uwurx93v81umt1x/Win2000+for+Macs.iso/file
Drivers: https://www.mediafire.com/file/83p9ek40bywzngq/Drivers.zip/file

What works:
•Intel GMA 965 graphics
•Realtek HD audio
•broadcom bcm4322AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n
•Marvell Yukon Ethernet driver 88E8053 PCI-E
•Apple keyboard (except volume and brightness control keys)
•Microphone

Untested:
•FireWire
•Mini-DVI out
•Brightness control
•Standby
•bootcamp control panel

Not working:
•iSight camera
•Bluetooth controller
•Multitouch trackpad (trackpad works otherwise)

My favourite Microsoft OS. :) What's the appeal about Win2K specifically, was it the challenge of seeing whether it could be made to run on a supported machine?
iirc Apple doesn’t support bootcamp for windows 2000 on apple products thus the modified ISO

Oh lol but yes Apple machines don’t support windows 2000 booting off a regular Disc / iso so yea it was kinda cool getting it to run + the drivers to work too

Very cool... Is it possible to share with us the process behind modifying the ISO and installing Win 2K? I for one would definitely be interested in knowing more about this on a curiosity level.

I used a program called NTLite to build an ISO, I used a windows 2000 fully patched w/ updates and IE 6 + more with a windows XP sp2 NTDETECT.COM file from the {CDROM}/i386 directory and overwriting it in the same directory but for the windows 2000 iso (just google “YSI v3.3 Windows 2000 iso” and you should get the iso you need)

I assume only singleprocessing HAL? The Macintosh BIOS emulation usually doesn't have ACPI compatibility for multiprocessor on W2K.

Very cool. Always wished there was a way to run Windows 2000 on Mac without using a VM. I have a lot of nostalgia for that OS plus it doesn’t require that pesky product activation crap that XP does.

I burned the image using hdiutil from the command line, but it won't move past the blinking cursor upon boot. Tried Toast Titanium under SL as well. What did you use to burn the image? I'll try that instead.

I'm trying to install on the same machine as yours.
