A lot of the 'rumours' you posted are nonsense. Windows 8 will not and will never be unix based

This, however I think the poster who first suggested it was joking, taking the mick out of the OP for suggesting every Windows 8 feature is a copy of a OS X feature.

Both OS's have copied each other's features many times. It isn't just OS X that copies off Windows.

But now that the theory of Apple copying Microsoft has been raised (Haha, a fine jest 😀) let's see what they might be interested in copying from MS.

They could copy the Registry! 😱

Or maybe Apple could adopt the concept of letting anyone at all, even trained chimpanzees in Zimbabwe toying with an EDGE cellphone, have complete access to all system functions and security features.... MS has had a monopoly on this for far too long.

Or how about Applications that are expected to embed themselves into the OS?

If these MS features don't abuse customers enough, perhaps Apple could adopt a paranoid and excessively complicated "Activation" scheme.

Maybe hire some top MS executives? Preferably an out of shape, middle-aged one that tries to dance and screams a lot. 😛

Have a strange, voodoo-like gathering to proclaim the death of their competitors product like MS did when the Zune was announced?😱


But that's just a very silly alternate universe.

Win8 is going to have exclusive rights to all of these features and more for the foreseeable future.

You do know that Windows had an App Store before OS X, but it got axed due to it being badly implemented which resulted in lack of custom? All they are doing there is returning and improving one of their own features, not copying Apple.

If we consider only games, Microsoft's own game store has been running since December 2009. Games for Windows LIVE Marketplace.

Ummm....
In post 19 of this thread, I wasn't intending to imply that MS was copying the App store. I was merely trying to point out the hilarity of such a concept. In a misguided attempt at being nice, I even tried to allow that MS might be the victim of cruel IT departments and may not be wholly responsible for the extreme inadequacy of their Enterprise products.

Now that you mention it, I've reconsidered.

It's both "almost too hilarious a concept to think about" AND just another cheap ripoff of Apple yet again!

Just because they made an abortive attempt previously doesn't mean that they're not trying to jump on Apple's coat-tails once again.

Well, maybe not so much "jumping on Apple's coat-tails" but rather... MS is trying to blatantly copy Apple once again so as to beat them to death with their own invention or successful refinement of an existing idea.


I still feel that just thinking about the concept of an MS App Store could do away with most anti-depression drugs at the cost of exhaustion and fainting from excessive laughter.

See? Even I can admit SOME good may yet come of MS's chicanery! 😉

Plus, PCs were and are cheap.

What disappoints me in Lion is the system requirements. It is massively bloated. Core2Duo and 2GB of RAM minimum is terrible. Even though my Mac is capable of running it, I'm still not impressed. Hopefully the Resume feature will kick ass so much that it will be worth it. Other than Resume and Versions, the rest of Lion's features are a big 'meh'.

I wouldn't bother arguing *LTD* about this. Many have tried and failed. He simply refuses to accept that Redmond has produced some quality products without ripping off Apple. Each versions of every Microsoft products have their +'s and -'s. Recently, with Windows 7, Office 2010, IE9, WP7; Microsoft have been churning out some quality, solid, software. Not to mention what a great success the Xbox has turned out to be. Yes, they are not always the first to have some features in their products, but neither are Apple at times. Fast user switching is one that springs to mind.

Just because they licence their software to a range of hardware companies, *LTD* automatically thinks they are trash. And, yes, some of their products have been trash. But so have Apple's at times.

Yes. That doesn't make it okay. I'd expect the first intel Macs to still be able to run the latest OS. What is the betting that computers from 2006 will be able to run Windows 8? High chance I'd say.

umm my computer from 2004 could run Windows 8 (slowly but it could) because it does have a 64 bit processor in it. I also believe W8 is going to be 64 bit only. W7 was the last 32 bit OS.

As it should at this point, 64bit processors have been out long enough that this shouldn't be a problem.

Those people who still have 32bit processors are generally not the type of people who will be upgrading to w8 anyways.

There are some really good PC manufacturers and for some windows is a good fit. OSX has some great advantages over windows, but it also has some disadvantages. You pick the computer (and OS) that best fits your needs. I like the idea of building my own computer and I can pick exactly what components I want into the computer - that's another option. You can then run windows or OSX (or even Linux) depending on which you prefer.

The childish fanboyism the posted here does nothing to add to the dialog.

Quite true about the fanboyism. I like Windows and OSX, as you said they both have their strong and weak points.
