Windows backup to New Mac

My Dad has just ordered a MacBook Pro

His Windows (Vista) backup is on an external drive. There isnt a whole lot there but is it easy/possible to restore this backup to OSX

How do you mean? Do you want to use Bootcamp to run windows or do you just want to bring over data from the backup? The latter is very easy.

I want to just bring the data over from Vista to OSX. It is on an external just using the in built Vista Backup tool.

This isn't possible. It looks like the Vista backup tool, saves everything jumbled up into a load of zips.

Try to find his "My Documents" in the backup because that will be where most of the personal data in Vista is kept.
