I’m going to offend some people by saying this, but I just want to point something out, so allow me to put on my Tim foil hat and show that Microsoft really likes to copy Apple…

Apple Watch Series 3

Xbox Series X

Last version of Windows 10, the final version of Windows

Mac OS X / OS X / macOS 10.X

If Windows 10 is being changed to Windows 11…

Cough cough cough macOS 11 Big Sur

This is nothing new (going on three decades), and the list could be much, much longer if you start getting into details, such UI designs of their OS versions.

You could also say that both companies copy each other when it comes to some things.

That’s true

And this goes beyond just software and hardware. The entire team at Microsoft is copying every other human being at Apple by existing, breathing, living, eating, so on.

Agreed. Companies like to call it their "take" on the said feature/ functionality that was copied.

No. They’re copying their branding and marketing. Let’s not generalize it to the point that it’s meaningless

When it comes to copying, borrowing, or one company's "take" on something, I think Windows 95 is a perfect example, imo.

Compare the GUI of Windows 3.1 to MacOS 7, and then 95 to MacOS 7.

Between the major improvements of the GUI, and the crazy successful advertisement campaign, Windows 95 became the king, and Macs (which was still a much better OS) almost disappeared.

MS had such a successful ad campaign for Windows 95, that there were people buying it that didn't even own a computer. The initial release didn't work either, and there was no internet updates back then. A couple service packs in, they got it working okay, but overall, the release of Windows 95 was genius work by MS, imo.

This one is solely about Microsoft copying Apple.
Nothing wrong with people pointing out opposing views.

There is nothing wrong. I think you’re mistaken. It’s just not the subject of this thread.

I think you’re mistaken.
About what?

It’s just not the subject of this thread.
Well, the subject is MS being accused of copying Apple. It is totally valid to bring up examples where Apple might copying be MS or others.

Actually, if someone would start a thread of Apple copying MS, the mods would probably just merge the two threads due to the subject being so similar.

Besides, having opposing view points is what makes the forum great. If everyone had the exact same thoughts and feelings and posted about it, this thread would be very boring and repetitive.

I don’t have an issue with other people pointing out opposing view. But that’s not the topic of this thread. It’s strictly about Microsoft copying Apple, specifically branding and marketing. Not about Apple copying other companies, like their features.

So no, they’re not the same. If you wanna generalize it then there’s many posts that should just be merged together like everyone complaining about battery drain on different models or even the same ones.

There is no opposing views, I’m not opposing it. I’m just saying it’s not part of this subject of this thread. You are mistaken.

I don’t think there will ever be a Windows 11. Microsoft’s goal is to have everything as a service, a subscription. Thus they changed the Office 365 brand into Microsoft 365, probably to prepare for that future. The future of Windows is that we won’t even know what version it is, just like Office 365. It’s just Windows, or Office, that you pay via subscription, and updates will just go rolled in as needed transparently.

If you want apt comparison of Microsoft copying Apple business strategy, simply look at the early days of Microsoft stores. They even built them close by or side by side of an existing Apple store. :D

I agree but I saw articles pointing out hints about Windows 11 being unveiled later this month I think

Read the first and last paragraph from the post you quoted from me.
This?:

There is nothing wrong.
It’s just not the subject of this thread.
Still doesn't make sense.

AFAIK, there is nothing in the forum rules that says the OP ultimately has say on what is considered on and off topic for a thread. You make a claim (which I agree with you) saying that MS copied things from Apple. An opposing viewpoint to that claim is that everyone does it, and Apple has done it themselves a few times. This is totally on topic of MS copying Apple.

Not sure what you expect here, especially when you start the thread off by saying this:
’m going to offend some people by saying this,
So, you are bringing up a topic that you perceive as controversial (at this point, it really isn't and has been discussed to death) and expect no one to address Apple copying MS or other companies?

This is a good example as well.

I remember MS Stores trying to stay relevant and prove that they are as cool as the Apple Stores with the cringey dancing:

You think I was referring to those things, when I told you to read the first and last paragraph that you quoted from me…?

And it’s not an opposing view point when I agreed with what you said. To be honest, I’m not even going to bother opening that link or comment about Apple copying other companies, because they do.

But that’s just getting off topic from my original post, so I don’t really care. It’s mainly about Microsoft copying Apple, not Apple and other companies copying each other.

I am still unsure about what you are talking about....

What link? The MS store link?

That is perfectly fine. The issue I have is when you posted this:
If you want to point out what Apple copied, do it on a different thread.

If you don't want to debate or engage when someone else has a different point of view as you (or your original intent to what you wanted the thread to be), that is fine, you just shouldn't prevent people from making those comments you don't approve of and your shouldn't tell them to create their own thread.

This isn't your thread, it is a MR thread that you created and anyone can participate in. Where it goes after your first isn't always up to you.

I don’t know how you can even participate in a debate or discussion if you can’t even keep up with context. Especially most recent responses. Obviously I was referring to your MS link, the only link provided here.

And, you being unable to understand what I meant when I said “you are mistaken” even though I wrote it in the same paragraph and/or same post explaining why with that sentence. The same post you selectively quoted. smh

I don’t have a different point of view. You are, once again, mistaken. This time for a different reason.

Yes, anyone can participate in my thread. Just keep it on topic. It’s not that hard, so stop complaining about it. You’re already making this about you, then what my original post was about.

Apple copied side-by-side windows from Windows 7.
Windows 10 search
OS X Enlarges Mouse Pointer on Shake
And many more things.
They both copy each other. Apple also copies Android, so… You know. Both copy each other.
