People often get fired for messing with security on the devices provided by work. Buy your own Mac if you want it clean.

I got a new MacBook Pro from work but it’s managed by the organisation. Part of this is Windows Defender which I can’t remove. I’ve been battling with my tech support for the last week, but they won’t take it off the computer.

Is there any way I can minimise its impact on the MacBook? I don’t want to see it in the taskbar, let it update, or have it run any scans. I want it to do as little as possible. What are some of the best ways to make it invisible to me and have it do as little as possible?

Also, will it impact the performance of the computer?
2 Options to remove Windows defender, Ask in IT departament for Windows Laptop or Unistall Windows from the MacBook yourself.

I'm pretty sure OP meant Microsoft Defender. Which is available for platforms other than Windows as well.

Gotta start first that yes, Windows Defender is a laggard and has always been like that. But you will probably have not so much speed increase if you uninstall it. You will have much more boost by disabling SysMain:

To disable it:
  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Find SysMain in the list.
  3. Right-click, select Properties, set Startup type to Disabled, and click Stop if it’s running.
  4. Click OK.
But if you try to disable WinDefender to install some cracked games I would strongly advice you against that since there is 95% probability app is actually infected with some sort of trojan. Better way: buy game on GoG (cheaper), Epic Store or Steam (if you can install apps like this one.

If you just want to have your very-own and secure environment I have a good idea for you: partition the internal SSD in disk utility, install MacOS on it and when you finish your studies just wipe the system, or if you don’t want to/cannot partition the internal drive just buy external USB 3.0+ SSD and install system on it

The OP is using a MacBook with Microsoft (not Windows) Defender on it, not a Windows computer.
