The MacBook LCD monitor can leave something to be desired depending on the LCD (manufacturer) installed in the MacBook you get. I got lucky with my MacBook and got an LG Philips LCD (9C5F/5F9C - LG Philips LP133WX1) which is the best one IMHO. I don't know if they still provide these LCDs in the new MacBooks.

With that said, I still have another 20" ViewSonic LCD monitor on my desk and use it when I'm working on my MacBook at my desk.

Concerning the button-less trackpad... it will take some time to get used to, but once you do you might prefer to having one or two buttons. At least that was the case with my MacBook (older MacBook) which has a single button and requires the two-finger right mouse button click. I find it is much easier to do a two-finger right mouse button click than to navigate down to the an actual right mouse button (like I have on my work provided Lenovo T61).

Like anything else, the change of moving from something known (PC/Windows) to something unknown (Mac/OS X) will take some time and patience. But after about a month I'm willing to bet you ask yourself why you waited so long to make the change. :)
