Hi There,

I was considering taking an old desktop and setting it up as a windows home server (i have a free license) but would much rather use my mac mini (which already has my backup drives attached to it) as a home server of sorts. What software exists for the Mac platform that can mimic some or all of the features (back up, remote desktop, remote file access) of Home Server?

Are you familiar with OS X at all?

Back up — use Time Machine or SuperDuper to backup your other Macs, turn file sharing on with Samba support to backup your PCs (you’ll need a client on the PC side too, but I have no suggestions)

Remote access — use Chicken of the VNC or if you have MobileMe, Back to My Mac and screen sharing

Remote desktop — screen sharing is built into 10.5 and above, turn it on in the sharing preference pane

every platform has the applications like the ones you are describing. What i'm looking for is a more all in one solution like home server.
